how do i know what transmission i have?

the truck is a 1963 Chevy c-20 3/4 truck. it has the 4 speed with granny first gear. i was wondering who mad the transmission, Muncie, Saginaw, etc. thanks

It is most likely a Muncie SM420.

I agree with what Markeb01 said, only real way to know is to find the casting numbers and run them

Yes more than likely it is the muncie sm420, assuming your truck is a 2x4, if it is a 4x4 its more than likely the sm465...bascilly the 4x4 version of sm420

took mine to a local shop to have mine identified. he thought it was either a muncie or new process. turns out its a borg warner t18.

The SM465 didn't come out until the '68 model year. All light and medium duty GM truck 4 speeds prior to that were the SM420 in both the 2wd and 4wd.
