This was a safety recall on all trucks for 60 - 72 I think.
The motor mounts in our trucks were not good enough against the torque, and they could seperate. Also, in the 70 and older trucks, they had the throttle rod instead of a cable. This only made things worse. So they sent a re-call to all owners and a few came in for it.
Some were chains, others were cables. Most were wrapped around the driver's exhaust manifold and then the upper a-arm.
The pictures you have seem to show one on the power steering pump, and another on the A/C pump on the other side of the engine. Also, I think I see a bracket of some sorts on the frame instead of just going around the upper A-arm.
If this is what I see, then some one either paid for the mod, or did it himself, or possably had connections at the local dealer and had them take special care of him. I can not see a dealership doing this much work when they are not getting paid for it. Esp doing twice the amount of work that was needed.

My 1970 never received the limiters.

This was a big problem with Chevys 1958-1970 cars also.

I once owned a 65 Corvette 327/365 which was pretty quick. A motor mount failed, and when that thing stuck wide open in 1st, it would get your attention in a hurry!

This is what you see and I've seen the cable and frame bracket setup pictured more than once. Also, I've seen NOS setups identical to this selling on Ebay. This is the genuine article a reputable dealer would have installed IMO.

This recall applied to cars, too (although the letter posted here doensn't refer to them). I remember my Dad telling me that he had two different cars that he got letters on. I forget whether he actually took them in to have the restraints put on or not. I do remember him saying he had to chain one engine down.

Apparently, this problem deosn't exist any longer. What changed?

Thumbs up

GM CHANGED THE STYLE OF MOTOR MOUNTS TO THE (CLAM SHELL STYLE OF MOTOR MOUNTS) ON TRUCKS IN 1972. A MUCH BETTER & SAFER DESIGN.

Cool, I have never seen nor heard of the set up...except for what I described.
Either way, it is the recall.

can someone give me a reference spot on these photos? i am having a really tough time understanding where they were taken from (from what vantage point).

is he looking down on the engine? or from the side of the engine? is he standing over the front grill taking the pic? or is he leaning over the front side fender?

i *think* i see a valve cover in the second pic. but i need a bit of guidance.

help me pls!
thanks!

Back drivers side of the engine on the left side of the pic, on the right side you can see the linkage for the autotranny, and the master cylinder lines.
