Horn assistance needed

I've searched through as many threads as I can and I still don't understand which order the horn contact, spring, and plastic piece go in. Is it like I have it shown in the picture with the head of the contact going in first? If so the head is too big to fit in the plastic. I think the LMC catalog is wrong.

Re: Horn assistance needed

The spring goes in first and then the horn brush. The setup is made this way so the spring can keep the horn brush in contact with the horn disc. It does not matter if the spring and horn brush are not held in since they point upward when installed into the steering wheel.

Re: Horn assistance needed

Is the horn brush the bolt looking thing? Does the head go in first(after the spring)? It won't fit inside the plastic tube? I can dremel tool it down, I just want to be sure that's the right thing to do.

I've heard the LMC ones are pretty crappy. Here's a thread from sometime back you might want to peruse. Doesn't seem to give a definitive answer to your quetion but they do give encouragement..

Re: Horn assistance needed

Thanks guys. It looks like the answer is to dremel tool the head down until it fits in the sleeve --(spring first!). I should know by now not to expect after-market parts to fit, but it's frustrating when you don't have an original to look at and you have to re-do things multiple times because the parts don't fit like they should.

Re: Horn assistance needed

I got it to work. I had two sets of contacts. One came with a steering wheel and when I temporarily lost that I ordered another set. lol One of the contacts was about half the length of the one shown in the picture. That's the one that worked after dremel tooling the head down so it would fit in the sleeve. Spring, then contact (head first), then plastic piece.

Thanks for your help guys. Horn sounds good.
