Question Rear View Mirror Falls Off

Cant get my inside rear view mirror to stay glued to the glass. I've done this many times before and it worked fine but this one has fallen off every time I glue it (within 24 hrs.). Used different glues and went by the instructions but it won't stick. I've ordered a 71 mirror and wondering if the inside cab metal is the same on a 71-72? I'm tired of playing with the glue and want to bolt it to the cab metal over the windshield.

Had the same problem. I finally used a spot of epoxy. I don't know if it will ever come off again but it's fine for now.

I had the same issue
I finally roughed up the glass with some sandpaper.
After that it stuck the first time and is still on there nice and solid.

No, they are different. The pre-72's have a raised area.

Re: Rear View Mirror Falls Off

67 - 70 do not have a raised area ... That is a '71 only feature. You can mount the older style mirror on there.

Angry Re: Rear View Mirror Falls Off

Can't help on your exact question but just have to say, I think glue on mirrors is one of the stupidest ideas to have ever been applied to cars/trucks!

They are a PITA and a design that is just not needed. Why mount it to the windshield when a short bracket and a few screws do the job? Short of the top frame rotting out, that mirror will never fall off!

I never could understand this. Just like all of the newer stuff today, just complicated, troublesome and expensive. Ok, I'm done my rant now.

Long live old Chevy's!!!!

Talking Re: Rear View Mirror Falls Off

In looking at the newer cars they have a much larger mirror button that will help the glue to hold. Mine is gonna get screws. As usual I get all the advice I need from you guys. thanks to all and Merry Christmas!!

Re: Rear View Mirror Falls Off

Just take it to a glass shop or body shop. They will glue it back on for you for little or no money. I've tried all the kits available at parts stores and had the same problems you're having. Stopped by a local glass shop on the way home from work. Took about 10 minutes and haven't had problem one.
