full time 4x4 question
the other day I had my 79 Chevy 4x4 and I was out playing around and I had it in Hi loc with the hubs locked, I was going to pull back on the road so I unlocked the hubs and put it in what I though was High range because the hi loc light went out in the dash but it was actually neutral in the transfer case. What am I doing wrong I don’t feel any kind detent for regular high range. Is it alright to drive like with it in hi loc with the hubs unlocked? If anyone could shed some light on this it would be graciously appreciated. I used to be able to run it in regular high range but now I cant find it.

Re: full time 4x4 question
Your truck is not in neutral , fulltime 4wd did not originally come with lock out hubs . The center differential in your transfercase is sending all the power to the path of least resistance (your front axel with the hubs unlocked) when you are in high unlock . Your truck will not move . Try locking your hubs and driving in high unlock . This how you should normally drive your truck .
Driving your truck with the hubs unlocked in high lock will eventually damage your transfer case because the coupler that locks the center differential was not designed for constant use . If you absolutely need 2wd a part time kit is available for for your truck . Other wise leave your hubs locked in and enjoy the benefits of a truck that is always in 4wd (fulltime) |
