The K25 gets FAST fuel injected and a new EZ-TCU

I thought that since I've only driven her 80 miles since the full frame off, why not throw a new FAST EZ-EFI on the 468 and lets upgrade the first-gen TCI trans controller with their new EZ-TCU controller. You can follow along on my build thread for all the details. Here's a couple of pics of the install:

Here's a couple of pics of the new air cleaner I am going to use. For those of you not following the build, I had originally been using a '72 Corvette dual snorkle cleaner. With the 1" carb adapter plate installed and the relative flatness of the Corvette cleaner base, I didn't like how much of the throttle body and injectors I could see....trying to keep it as stock looking as possible.
So, I bought a GM restoration '67 big-block Chevelle air cleaner that has a deep dropped-base that hides most of the throttle body, injectors and sensors. I think it looks great.
Here's a couple of pics of the new air cleaner, as well as a few pics of the new TCI tcu harness being installed and run down through the hole below the console.
Still have a few wires to connect, then I can power it up.

I hope you like yours better than I did mine
After futzing around with it I thew it up on the shelf for a leaf blower project that will be well served by it and went with my Sean Murphy-prepped Q'Jet and the HEI.
No comparison

Lol...that's funny. I took off my Sean Murphy quad for the efi.
As far as "no comparison", what specifically doesn't compare?
The EZ-EFI's on some of my friends cars works great; what problems did you have with yours?

x2. I've been watching these set-ups & waiting to read some 'real world' opinions of how 'easy' they really are to use as well as how effective vs a carb.

Hey SCOTI! Good to hear from you. As far as my EZ-EFI install, it has been fairly easy to install...95% is just wiring and running fuel lines. I will be sure to post about the initial start-up and tuning using the hand held. I helped two friends install this same set-up on their cars; a '62 Impala SS with a radical Bill Mitchell 427 smallblock and the other was on a '55 Chevy with a ZZ502. Both installs went smoothly, were easy to tune, and have performed flawlessly. The driveability of both cars was greatly improved. I will keep ya posted.

Not so much problems per, se, but the drivability was not really any different and the mileage pretty much the same. Mind you, I am no novice with EFI installs and I used this 402 as a test bench for most of them starting back when the first Megasquirt systems were coming up to speed so I have "been there and done that" The "problem" with bolt on and go systems is that they work for the vast majority of the setups out there and F.A.S.T. did do their homework but I was just not happy with the part throttle transition and it's finicky characteristic of this system when using a 4-gear and a big load which, is what I primarily drive this truck for. The cold starts could have been better. The newer rev. of the software helped but a choke on a Q'jet was demonstrably better. It is hard for me to compare apples to apples because I had a very well tuned mill to begin with so I had a baseline established and overall I felt it really did nothing for me. After all, it is nothing more than a glorified carburetor if you want to get down to brass tacks but, with a lot more things that can go wrong. It stranded me one time on my way back home to Texas where I go on vacation every year and it was only in service for a few months. Most of the parts are off-the-shelf items as FAST uses GM components and Carter fuel pumps but their own "magical" injectors and obviously the ECM. If the "disposible" parts go bad then you can carry spares from Autozone but the latter....buena suerte' (good luck)

When I am on a vacation and a bolt on system strands my ass and with my wife glaring at me with the "I told you not to f**k with it!" look in her eyes then I appreciate simplicity all the more. I logged a lot of road time before I set out on the road and it tuned itself "fairly" well but it could have been tweaked better if I was able to get into it and do it but this is what appeals to most folks who don't want to drag around a laptop. I used an LC-1 wideband controller for a long time to "real world" tune my carbies so I do have a very good feel for what is happening at any which given time.

Personally, it was really nothing more than a "wow" factor when I popped open the hood but aside from that. Simplicity wins me over every time.
Port injection is a better scenario but still again, these are bank-to-bank setups unless you buy the high dollar sequential setups with all of the hardware and appropriate sensors and you might as well look for a donor vehicle with a setup you want to transplant and be way ahead $$-wise...but that is just me. Lots of folks don't bat an eyelash dropping $3K+ to add EFI to an older mill and that is okay too.

The next (and probably very last) iteration will be a complete LS engine swap and that way I can run a factory designed late model setup with all of the OEM stuff in place and leave it be

If you are not as anal as me (no one is) then you will be very happy with the FAST system

Well, a little more progress on the EFI and TCU install today. I got the wiring finished up under the dash...you can see the extra fuseblock I installed a while back for all the accessories I have installed on the truck. That extra fuseblock is an NOS 64 Chevy truck accessory block I got on ebay... it matches the factory block pretty well.
You can see the computer cable from the EZ-EFI computer on the firewall routed through the steering column grommet...this is the cable you attach to the EFI hand-held unit to manipulate the EFI settings.
I also got the new EZ-TCU controller and hand-held mounted in the factory console.
Only a couple of loose ends to finish up now...hopefully by Christmas day.

Wow! It's been awhile since I updated this thread. The truck is running great with the EFI! I had an issue with the TCU...it went bad, and TCI sent me a new one...that kept me from driving the truck as the trans wouldn't shift, but all the bugs are worked out now, and she drives so sweet. My buddy who wrenches at a local 4x4 shop calls her a Cadillac because she runs so good and smooth.
