Auto Shifting Issue
My truck is a 71 with 402 and TH400 auto with column shift. Currently it will shift freely between N and D L2 L1. With some effort it will go into reverse and absolutely refuses to go into Park. I think it's something in the column as I can't see anything external to the column that is interfering.
Is there a way to get to the part of the column that moves with the shifter by removing the steering wheel? Can you think of anything else to check? Thanks

Re: Auto Shifting Issue
I had the same problem-I found that the nut coming out of the trans was loose and causing the linkage to bind, so I cleaned everything, lubed it up and tightened it all down and worked good. It's time to do it again because it's starting to get hard to shift into park again. Lube and check everything on the column as well, you shouldn't need to open up the column.
