Patching my 78 cab - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Instead of replacing the inner and outer rocker as well as floor extension, cab corner, kick panel, etc I was thinking about measuring 8 inches up from the top of the rocker front and rear and 8 inches in from the inner most part of the rocker and cut the whole section out from front to back with the floor section, toe board kick panel and all and replace it all in one shot. Hope that makes sense. I do not have paint on my laptop to take a picture and draw lines on it to explain so if anyone does and would like to help with that please let me know. Thanks.
Does this sound like a better or worse way of doing the repair.

I think it would have to be completely wasted to do it that way. There is aan old build thread here that someone did that to a 73 or 74 GMC, and it turned out great. I would think a cab swap off of a newer truck would be a pant-load easier.

I dont want to do a cab swap due to space, time limitations right now. Plus the paint inside is original and nice!

I think it can be done but it would be harder to get perfect. I'd also be afraid I missed a weld inside therefore making my cab a lot weaker. I did all the patch panels on my cab, floor, inner and outer rockers, kick panels and cab corners I would have never dared cut it all off lol. If you found a cab with a decent floor I'd just put that one on. just my .02
