OT: Need honda help
JUst bought an 84 prelude and it continues to run after turning off. Anyone know what causes this and how to fix? Anyone know of any honda forums such as this one?

I can't remember that far back, but I believe the Preludes were supposed to run premium fuel, although many didn't and they woudl diesel after a while because of the fuel. I would say that it probably just needs a good tuneup though. If it is one with a carb vice efi, clean asnd check the choke also.

By run on, do you mean dieseling...coughing stumbling and making embarasing noises...or do you mean sitting there and purring like you were ready to roll from the stop light and lasts for about 30 seconds.
If it is the former, then check your timing, card adjustments (Onless it is the PGMFI engine) and your fuel octain level. If it is the latter, then check your electric fan wires. If it is wired to the wrong circuit, and you shut the engine off with the fan on, the fan will act like an altinator and produce enough voltage to run the engine for a moment, untill it slows down and stops making power. THe solution for this would be rewire it the proper way witht eh correct relays and switches, or to move the rigged wire to another circuit on the fuse panel. I recomend the first fix if this is the problem, there are planty of these in the junk yards to get the right parts off of. |
