Project Little Black Truck

I used to have a show-worthy 85 stepper that I've missed since I sold it in 94, and have always kinda wanted another. A neighbor came up with this one a couple of years ago, and I really liked it. He eventually sold it to his brother, and I thought it lost. About a month and a half ago, the neighbor's kid told me it was up on the block, as his uncle was in a jam and needed cash. I bought it 2 days before Thanksgiving for $1200. It's an 87 swb, 350 tbi/t350, ps, pb, pw, pl, tilt, cruise, ac. It was a tad messy when we got it-

Then we cleaned it up a tad-

Now we're gathering parts. So far, we've fixed the bad battery cable, got the heat working corrrectly, taken the crummy steering wheel and shift knob out, installed a stereo and scraped the rebel flag off the back window. It runs real good, and we enjoy bombing around in it.
I've been junking for parts, and have collected some trim parts, the serpentine front drive and all related parts off of a 90 sub, drop spindles ($40 in a salvage!), inner fenders, a front spoiler, and a 1 1/4 sway bar. I got the new rockers and cab corners for christmas. It'll be a while till we really get going, but it'll be fun when we do!

Re: Project Little Black Truck

I like that truck and the rims. Although I did look at the pictures for awhile before deciding what was wrong, If the rims are all the same size, the right front and left should be swapped I think. It's like a guess whats different pic.
Again cool truck

Yep, they're backward. Been too busy too mess with it much. I'd take 2 more of these wheels in a 15x10 if anyone has any leads. Thanks for the props, It'd actually look better if I gave it a real bath and polished it.

For $1200 I'd say you stole that thing. Nice score.

Re: Project Little Black Truck

Good news! Took a tire off and found my junkyard find drop spindles will work! Also, found the cap for the end of the pull strap on the door for 5.49 at oreillys, instead of 15 from one of the resto houses. Took tomorrow afternoon off, supposed to be 55. Going hunting for dually front springs, a rear swaybar, and a few serpentine parts.

Re: Project Little Black Truck

Another good day in the yards! Took a half day off on a gorgeous day, and got lucky again.
Got 1-ton dually coils, the rest of the serpentine drive, and the capper,
A MONSTER aftermarket rear swaybar off of a 96 Tahoe. Got a plan to make it work.

Re: Project Little Black Truck

Ok, so I had some time on Sat. afternoon. I decided to break out the compound and see what we could do with the rest of the paint on this thing. It's still a 20-footer with rust and dings, but it's shiny!

Re: Project Little Black Truck

Have a big project coming with my dad's truck, so this one's in holding pattern/parts gathering. See Boppa's truck in 67-72 projects. Still, a couple days... some parts... must...resist...temptation... My dad actually said, you gonna slam it the night you pick it up, or wait until the weekend? Ha Ha, Mr. Funnypants. Jon, find me a superclean bed in TX so I can come get it and we can stare at trucks and drink Shiners!

Re: Project Little Black Truck

I just sold that very bed, and it was even black. We pretty much gave it away, and now I need a RH bedside. Go figure. You can always come down, stare at trucks, and drink Shiners, though. I will keep a look out for a whole bed. I feel a junkyard crawl coming on soon.

If it makes ya feel any better, a co-worker of mine sold a beautiful 85 bed 2 weeks before I bought this truck. Bummer.

Re: Project Little Black Truck

Welp, I've been frantically thrashing on Boppa's truck while he's been driving the LBT. But, I have the Craigspro, and it is evil, pure evil. So I got hold of some very nice gentlemen in Tulsa, and this weekend, we met and I got a lil sumpthin for the LBT.

Glad to see this still moving along. Mine has become a garage queen, as it is too hot to get motivated. Pool time has been winning over garage time.

Re: Project Little Black Truck

The 275 60's on the yellow truck. Boppa has a fresh set of wheels for yeller. I'd love to get Rollin on it, but A. I gotta get yeller done and gone to get room for LBT, and B. I gotta whip a side job or two through for some truck dough! I really wanna get cracking on it though. I have some really nice doors lined up as well. We shall see!

Re: Project Little Black Truck

I just went and read the yellow truck thread. Best get to crackin' on that one so we can see some square love. Just sayin'.

Either I'm too fat and old, or it's too hot for any progress here (could be both). I am ready to start my LS swap, but it's going to have to wait. I "get" to go on a family vacation to Colorado next week. 70 degree temps sound great; 26 (or more) hours in a car with a 3 & 4 year old, not so much.

Re: Project Little Black Truck

Oh, have fun with that! Thank god for portable DVD players! I'm really tryin', the stated goal at new years was to go to Goodguys at labor day and the truck nats the next week. If I wanted to get horny about it, I could pop the front end together and slap the old interior in and be Rollin this weekend. But we're trying to make it a much better truck as we go along. I have a month, well see. Thanks for looking!
