Yeah I was going to say ive never heard of that swap before. Im really interested now to see what kind of numbers it will put out. Isn't the record like 700hp on a VE 12V fuel only?

What are you doing for injectors?

Yeah, I think it's around there with a 14mm VE. Since this is the wife's truck, it won't be a huge power house. I'd like it to be around 300-350HP to the rear wheels. It has 7x.012 injectors in it that are built in house, and the pump is turned up. I have another pump at the pump shop that has a 3200 govonor spring in it and has been rebuilt. Just have to wait for them to finish it up. My plan for now is to run a HX35W with a 14cm exhaust housing. That will help out top end and won't get as hot either. Should make for a great towing combo too.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

I got the harmonic balancer, engine adapter plate, and fuel pump block off plate installed this morning. Then I had to clean up the bay enough to get this thing inside the shop.

Started removing front clip to get ready to set engine in it's new home.

We pushed the truck in the shop and rolled the front of the frame right under the engine. Now the fun part comes. I'm going to have to notch my front cross member and brace it according. Then I can start building an engine cross member and get the mounting ears made up. Right now it's just sitting on the cross member and a big jack stand.

I wouldn't listen to the folks on CF about this, they will have you blowing up your truck in under 5 miles...

Nice to see no one followed through lol And I know Schied said they were the first VE 24V Conversion lines thy had ever bent, and they bend a ton of lines.

Thanks Wade. It'll feel great to be able to pull it out of the shop without a chain or guys pushing it.

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

The last few nights on my break at work I started polishing my intake plate and valve cover. What do you think?

I started to trim my cross member in the front and eventually wacked it out. I was going to try to install this engine with a mechanical fan. However, I forgot that I have a return line that comes out of the back of the head. If I ever want to get it off or repair it if needed, I had to bring the engine forward to be able to do so. Oh well, I like electric fans any how.

I put a bare trans housing in there to see how it's going to fit. I'm going to have to either cut and modify a floor pan brace, or lower the rear of the engine to be able to install the over drive housing and transfer case on the transmission. We'll see what I come up with.

I also have to watch the front differential because this engine has a huge oil sump on it. I may have to add a 4th leaf to these springs if they don't like the weight and I'm not happy with the clearance I'll have after the weight of the power train is on the chassis.

Tomorrow I'm going to start building the engine cross member. It's going to be a PITA because this oil pan is deeper through out the entire length compared to 2nd gen dodge pans. I'm also going to redo the front cross member and build a steering box brace and integrate it into the front cross member some how.

Looking good, moving along nicely. VE 24v? Some would say you need to have your head inspected, others will say how unique, way to think outside the box. I would love to sell my Dmax and build a daily driver like such with a P-pumped 24v with a 6spd handshaker, but I dont have the time and these newer diesels move pretty well stock and with a plug in can move even better for a 7500lb vehicle.

The motor Looks good. You must have moved the motor forward quite a bit I just trimmed like a 1/2 unch off my front crossmember to get tthe motor to set down. Looks good. Now you are down to the stuff that seems like you never accomplish anything because it is all smalll and no real visual progress or at least that is the way mine seemed. Course I just had a P[-pumped 12 valve

Cost, availability, and reliability. hardest part about it was getting the lines made, other than tuning its a rather simple build honestly.

I wanted something different for this rig. My other chevy will have a P-pumped 24v and a 5 speed with a DD. I already have a VE 12v and a P-pump 12v in drivers. Plus I've always wanted to do a VE 24v. It should make for a killer mileage engine hopefully.

Yes I had to because of the return line banjo bolt in the back of the head. I don't want to have to pull the engine to fix the line if it ever leaks or what ever. Plus the #6 Injection Line is super close to the fire wall.

If I start with a rough casting piece, I use a corps disc scotch brite pad, red medium grit on a die grinder. I smooth up the surface best I can. Then I sand it starting with 180 grit. Then 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, and then 1200. I then use a polishing wheel with aluminum polish and buff it up. On these parts I only had 220, 400, and then ultra fine gray scotch brite pad. I will go back over these parts with finer sand paper and re polish it later. The valve cover is going to be a real PITA!

Re: Project: B.A.D. 1976 K30 CCLB

I wasn't happy with how the engine sat in the chassis so we re positioned it and then I started building the engine mounting brackets.

Tomorrow I'll wrap up the LH engine mount. The energy suspension bushings don't fit worth a crap. They're extremely tight and in their instructions they tell you to trim to fit according to your mount. So I have to trim the ears some more so the bushings will stay in all the way so I can tack the upper portions of my mounting brackets other wise it will be a fight every time I want to install or remove it.
