spare tire is sooo ugly
Trying to get the spare tire tucked between the frame rails on my shortbed.
I was thinking that one of the old space savers (firebird, el camino etc. using a wheel adapter) that need inflation cans would work, but I cant find any information that tells me how big the diameter of these are when deflated and then inflated... Also, don,t want to put the tire in the bed and have the gas tank behind the seat so those are not options. And the roads around here are littered with debri and potholes so flying "commando" is not an option. Anyone know the sizes of those??? |

Re: spare tire is sooo ugly
Years ago I thought of using a spare tire holder/hoist off an 85 Toyota pickup truck. Don't know how it would work on trailing arms but I may try to do it on my 68 GMC since I have the leaf springs on it.

Re: spare tire is sooo ugly
At one point Furd did a spare mounted in the Bedside.IIRC it was on a camper special truck. The front area of the bed was made into a door and the spare actually fit inside the bedside.I doubt that's a solution for your situation but it might be an interesting idea for someone to use at some point.

Re: spare tire is sooo ugly
Looks like a dodge caravan spare will fit. 145 width might tuck under enough to be out of sight. 20 bucks at the local salvage yard so Ill give it a shot this weekend...
