sometimes you just have to be in the right spot at the right time

I went to the junkyard last week to pick up some interior trim for my 73, when I stumbled across a late 80's CC dooley with mismatched doors. While I was inside looking for trim, I noticed these doors were 73-76 and with NICE door panels...needless to say I picked up my trim AND the door panels...grand total for everything...$14!

Last night while surfing CL, I saw an ad for 73-80 TRUCK bumpers, front and rear (sport!), with brackets and everything...he was asking $25 for it all. The ad was just listed, so I called right away and arranged a time to pick them up. I got there and since this was a rolling chassis, the bumpers were pretty easy to take off. As I was getting ready to leave I asked if he had any other parts off this '78...he said "yes". Well, I walked out of there with both bumpers, all brackets, shields, 2 NOS rear wheel tubs (L & R) with GM stickers sill on them, and a repro Chevy chrome grill in excellent shape. $60!

I usually don't get deals like this, but I never quit looking either. Just goes to show there are still parts out there to be had for cheap...just keep your eyes peeled and ask questions!

Sorry. no pics...

Nice score, the guy at the junk yard must have only charged you for the trim.

What junkyard did you go to and did they have parts for a 81-87 shortbox? I'm in Hudson, WI and looking for any good junkyards that actually carry the 80s stuff I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

When he said $14, I said "does that include the door panels too?"

He said "yes"

It was probably because I yanked everything in weather in the teens...wasn't very busy there.

Rohners in Wilmar MN has tons of 73-87, and Windy Hill in new London (which is on the way) has some too. Good full day adventure if you leave early enough.

Cool! I'm always up for a new adventure looking for parts. I'd make a day of it if the weather was warm enough. i'm going to do a search on both places right now. Do you go there often?

No, not showing off...hope I didn't come across that way. I was just trying to tell those who are in the same boat as myself (tight funds looking for parts) that you don't need a ton of money to buy those nice parts, deals are out there and waiting for that right buyer (you).

All, well most, of the squares around here have gone off to the crusher.

Re: sometimes you just have to be in the right spot at the right time

talking about being int the reight place at the right time, i had a friend who commented on some guys truck and he gave it to him. it was a 77 long bed c10 in great shape and nearly all stock. the guy was very life experienced and didnt have the time to get it running. i threw a new starter in it after testing the old one and it cranked over. a little ether and she was purring. about 2 miles later the q-jet started vomiting fuel but you cant complain when the truck was free. oh and it can with spare tires and wheels
