Re: Project CST/SS

Very interesting front grill, I like the idea, no one else will have it, maybe joke around and fool a few people, yep a special edition SS.

Re: Project CST/SS

Update: got the truck demo done with the exception of taking the cab off the frame, that's next. Then give the frame a fresh POR 15 coat. I have someone that's going to weld in my rockers, cab supports & cab corners.

Big news is that I scored a 1968 327 V8 out of another truck, it was rebuilt not to long ago. It has exhaust manifolds and brackets too. Got it for $320.00 bucks, smoking deal. Then he tells me he has something else I might be interested in....Score, factory tack cluster for $25.00.

Will post up some updated pics soon.

Re: Project CST/SS

Found some clearer images of that golden cameo truck I though I would share.

Says it had a vinyl roof, carpet & bucket seats too.

The photo is from the 1967 Chicago auto show. They have a smaller version of the same pic on their web site.

Re: Project CST/SS

Yeah, I am not sure about doing a vinyl roof on mine though. It might look ok if I leave the factory white upper (red truck w/ white roof) and then add white vinyl but I dunno. Never been a fan of the vinyl roof systems. Thanks for the pics though! did you notice the matching vinyl bed cover?

I have those wheel covers but I think American racing TT's are in the picture for my truck.

I totally forgot about that Golden truck, I always remember the hood vents, a bit odd but did like the grill and front end, too bad they didn't actually make them.

Re: Project CST/SS

Well, upon picking up a few cool items for the build I have made a decision to flip a nice 71 custom deluxe shortbed a guy sold me for cheap He was 75% done on a frame off resto. My plans are to finish the process and sell it at the Charlotte Autofair next month to pick up some budget $ for the SS project. I will start a build thread for it soon.

In the meantime I picked up a 68 327 V8 & 4 speed. Plans are comming togather on the engine, it should turn out pretty kool but I will let you decide later when it's closer to finished.

Right now the truck is stripped down to the frame & cab. Let the sanding begin! Wait, I need to get that 71 ready for the car corral first!

I'll get some pics up soon of the current situation on the SS.

Re: Project CST/SS

Here is a pic of the 327 sbc I picked up for $320.00. It was supposedly rebuilt about 2 years ago w/ low milage. I plan on putting big valve 300 double humps and a L-79 cam to build up motor to 350hp factory build. That seems quite appropriate for a SS truck. 4 speed sag from a 68 camaro w/ hurst shifter for $120.00 (w/ new clutch). I am finding very good deals out there and hope you do too

Re: Project CST/SS

I was kind of hoping you would run the 500. Everyone under appreciates the 472/500 but, they are dime a dozen and have tons of torque. You can get aluminum intakes, heads, headers now if you want but, really don't need them. Also, I see your in Asheboro. Happen to know Rich Shores of Southern Rods and Customs? Great guy. He painted a 87 Grand National for me and was building a 71 Cheyenne.

Re: Project CST/SS

Not lots of updates on the 68, worked on front bumper mod but still have some welding to do on it before I can show it + it would be nice to get the front end back togather to show how it all ties togather. Right now, sanding on the roof and getting the suspension figured out. Getting close to finishing my 71 though, maybe in a month or two I can get the bed finished so I can sell it and fund the 68 CSST project along with my 69 firebird. Also I have my mother in laws home to get ready to go on the market, remodel a home next door to rent out and sell off my late fathers lawn mower graveyard. Too much to handle but that's life. Roll with it
