help with lowering and disc brakes for a 65
i want to lower my truck and do a disc brake conversion at the same time. i have the 6 lug rally wheels and i want to keep them. i dont need power as im sure it will brake so much better than drum all around. i want to drive this truck all over town and not worry about the speed humps so much. one guy said a 2...4... drop would be good. i want it as low as daily driving will allow. can you help me pick out the good parts for this conversion. thank you.

If you end up doing 5 lug in the front and the issue is just the wheels, that wheel is available in 5 lug also with the same style cap

Re: help with lowering and disc brakes for a 65
Is there an issue with the 6 lug rallies rubbing on the front when the truck is lowered?

No, but the tires touch the fender. On tight turns; barely. Thats my blue '66 in pic above. I'm running 235/70's all around. Front is lowered about 4.5-5''.....not sure exactly cuz I cut one loop off of 1'' lowering springs.

Yea I have been reading your other thread, i'm getting ready to buy my front end parts but haven't decided on the amount of drop yet. I do know I will get 2.5 " dropped spindles but not sure if I will go lower. Thanks for the info.

No prob. The only way the rims will get any rub is on the inside if you remove the bumpstop mount from the lower a-arm. This will allow you to crank the wheel until there is contact. This happens on my '64 with 5.25'' of backspace. The ralleys are about center for backspace I believe.

Re: help with lowering and disc brakes for a 65
The 6-lug 15x8 ralley wheels have a 3-5/8" backspace.
(5-lug 15x8 wheels have a little more BS at 4") The super rare 15x7 6-lug ralleys have a 4" backspace which would help with your turning issue. 5-lug ralley wheels are more plentiful and come in 6.5", 7," and 8" widths. If you could find a 5-lug rearend cheap,... I would consider changing to 5-lug up front.

Wonder if the mount surface could be machined down a bit; nearly an inch thick?

Re: help with lowering and disc brakes for a 65
I just ordered a 6 lug 2.5 drop disc brake kit from Brothers, they're running a 15% discount through January. Never bought from them so we shall see.
