i'm considering welding in the hump. i'm going with an auto trans and i don't really foresee a need for the above access. plus, i will be installing heat/sound deadening under the carpet and i seriously doubt i would want to pull all that up for access. however, i do know if i weld it in, there will be that one time i wish i hadn't.

does anyone have a situation to were they needed this access?

one other question.....does new carpet come as one piece? is there a cut out hole with a seperate piece for the hump?
everyone advertises one piece, so i'm sure that's what it is.

I think its self preference. There are pros and con's either way. I am installing a 6 speed manual with a modified high hump. I plan on bolting it in and will be installing heat/sound deadening under the carpet. I guess just knowing I can remove it easily for what ever reason is why I decided to bolt it in.

I to am converting from a manual trans to auto and I also have considered welding it in. I probably will leave it bolt in cause like you said the day will come when I wish I hadn't. Who knows the prices for high humps may go through the roof and nobody will want to buy one thats welded.

Good question that I would like to hear opinions about as well. I cut my short hump cab to install large hump for 4L80E mated to LQ9. Once everything is installed I think you'd never unbolt that cover again. Only thought and other consideration is the mounting place for the ECM. In one build Ackattack mounted his inside the cab just above the hump sitting vertical against the firewall. He cut a hole through the cover near the edge which i thought was rather clever, just incase someday things need to be removed.

If you already have a high hump cab....why go to all the hassle of welding the hump in? Cinch down the bolts and fahgeddaboudit. If you're cutting out the little hump to put in the big one- then it would probably be just as easy to weld it in then drill the necessary holes to bolt it in......just sayin'!

i already have a high hump. i'm just thinking i wouldn't have to worry about whatever gasket or seal that i use drying out and cracking in the future causing moisture and mold to build up under the carpet.

plus i like welding, grinding, and everything in between.

I wouldn't weld it in for anything. You never know when you may need the access.
