the cam is a comp xs 274, solid flat tappet. the specs are liek .501/.510 and 236/244 at .05. its really not to radical in this size motor, it would be alot more radical in a 350!

thanks for the compliments everyone!

Ryan,
Both of these two things are VERY easy to do yourself, and will make TONS more hp when they're both tuned right. I think I read something about you were going to HAVE it done..but why man, just do it yourself.
If you need the instructions/help, just throw me a PM.

Ryan, I noticed Barr had several motors listed in the classifieds lately.... he's running some 'specials'. He has a 400 listed, so is yours one of his 'crate engines' or is it your personal 'spec built' motor?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

scoti, mine is a combo that i came up with myself. but kim is the best in the area as far as i'm concerned. i was referred to him by 67_ss396, who had kim put together his big block. he really knows his stuff. i bought my bare block from kim, another customer had brought it in to get alot of machine work done and kim did it, then the guy never paid him or picked it up so he sold me the fully machined 400 block for $350. i would trust that any of those motors he is selling are done right. i had him balance my rotating assembly and assemble the shortblock, as well as machine my heads for bigger valve springs. it was far from cheap, but i know its all done right. what exactly does he have listed for sale? i'm just curious. he had several other 400 blocks with the machine work already done on them, but most were raced prepped with the steam holes plugged.

Look in the 'parts/accessories' section of the DallasMorningNews & you can see it's kind of a generic add for various size engines. I've heard both good & bad about Barrs stuff. The one thing I do know is he charges alot for breaking in/dynoing a new motor. I had a friend ask me about where I had mine done (yrs ago) & Barr was 3X the total amount.... but for only 1/3 of the time.

Needless to say, my buddy had Barrs do his machine work & brought it to someone else for dyno tweaking. Nice 'lil' 396 w/a 6-71 blower w/2 4's from BDS.
