Switching posi rear end to another truck?
I have two 1986 Chevrolet SWB both C-10's I think...
Anyways, my blue C-10 has a Posi Rear End, and the Red C-10 does not. I was wondering if possible, can I switch the rear ends on the trucks since they are both the same year? Maybe put them side by side and just swap? Blue 86 Chevy has a 350 with posi Red 86 Chevy has a 454 without posi I want my MORE powerful engine to have the posi track rear end. IS THIS POSSIBLE???

Re: Switching posi rear end to another truck?
Yes it is very possible, check clearances and make sure the size is the same. a 14 bolt corporate rear end for a 3/4 ton truck isn't the same as a 12 bolt. Just measure to be double sure and go for it!

Re: Switching posi rear end to another truck?
What exactly do I measure? And what all do I need to unbolt to switch? This will be my first time taking off a rear end on a pickup so I'm new to this, but I can do it. Just need a little assistance please

Blue truck could be a 1/2 ton (5 lug, 8.5" ring gear 10 bolt, probably). If the red truck came with a 454 it can't be a 1/2 ton, because that engine was not available. Probably a bigger axle with 8 lugs. Can you count wheel lugs and report back - or - did you put the 454 in the red truck? Unless you are ok with 5 lugs on the front and 8 lugs on the back ![]() K

Re: Switching posi rear end to another truck?
Get a jack or something to hold the rear end up. Disconnect the springs, raise the truck as well so it doesn't crush you. In bolt the hangers, they look like U's, disconnect brake lines. thats it. Check the bolt pattern on both and see if they match, if they don't it still will be ok, Measure length from rear end to transmission so drive shaft lines up. that's it
