My first build - '79 C20 454

This is my first post and wanted to introduce myself on to the board. Ive used this site a ton while i have been doing a frame off resto on my 79 c20 bbc. Thanks to all of you guys for the info and the help.

Now about the truck. I bought it as my winter runner (so i didnt have to drive my firebird in the winter) in spring of 2008 while I was at carlisle just before i graduated high school. Drove it and worked it until the winter when i decided i wanted to tear it down and rebuild it. Numbers matching all original truck, pretty clean. The engine was redone before i bought it and it was punched .030. Ive done all of the work over the past few years in between work and college, except i had my local engine shop rebuild the engine with all new internals and a tranny shop rebuilt the th400 with a bit of a shift kit. its finally coming together and i finally got around to becoming a member on the forum so i figured i would throw this thread up.

heres some pics of whats happened.

Didnt take too many pictures during tear down but hear are some going through pretty quick.

First couple are of the body coming apart. i wanted to get the engine in the shop as quick as possible. then removed everything from the frame. rebuilt the rockers and cab myself. then gutted the interior.

Cleaned the frame up. all new bushings, grommets, coils, and other suspension parts. Covered in east woods rust encapsulator and extream chassis black. rebuilt the rear end and new shackles and springs from detroit eaton spring. all new brakes and turned drums. got the engine back from the shop painted it up. stuck some headman ceramic coated headers on her. got everything set up and ready for the initial engine start.

Inline tube made up oem stainless steel brake, fuel and transmission lines. hung the door to make sure the rockers and cab corners lined up well. started getting the engine bay back together. hung the replacement goodmark fender to make sure it fit as well. cab saw a lot of work. put new carpet and headliner in as well as replaced the dash. then the cab got some nice new paint of the original brown metallic and neutral tan. just been working on everything kind of as it went to eliminate the amount of installing and reinstalling of parts.

Re: My first build - '79 C20 454

yeah there has been quite a bit of progress in the last few weeks. I cleaned up and painted the inside and outside of the doors and fenders, finished up all the hvac system, finished the dash and wiring, as well as the door panels. I had to replace the radiator because the old one sprung a leak. put in all the other stuff under the hood. all that really needs to be done to it now is paint the hood, finish the bed, and install all the trim and bumpers.

I will update pictures tonight

i cant wait!!
