LS Swappers, What did you use, and what did it cost?
Ok, so I have decided the route for my 67 C20, and it's a 6.0L LS swap.
My question for you guys is: What kit or parts did you use, and what did it cost you? I haven't decided which way I want to go, whether it's a full FI/DIS swap, carb and DIS or carb and dizzy setup, (#1 or 2 are most likely), but I want real world, I did this and it is now running perfect numbers. I plan on using a JY engine, which has risks, but is significantly cheaper than any other options. Let me hear it!

Headman headers, holley or trans-adapt plates, and bolt it in. Use the web directions to rework your harness, and have the ECU flashed. Then run it.

Mine is a 4.8/4L60 bought on Craigslist. You will have a bunch in a 6.0 junkyard or otherwise. I would be happy to help you any way I can if you decide to pull the trigger.

One thing to watch for if you want to run the front mount dist is that not only do you have to buy a dist you also have to buy a kit that includes the new front cover, new water pump, new harmonic balancer, and pulley kit to clear the new cover that cost around $1500. When I do mine I'm gonna run an intake/carb setup with a msd box to control the coil packs.

Here are a couple of items that made my swap easy.
Motor mount kit from CPP part # CPLS1-K. kit comes with plate and hardware. Headers - I installed Doug Thorley's, they fit like a glove. You can find them for under $500 shipped.

Just added mine up (5.3L), $2725. That includes headers, full exhuast 4L60E tranny, wiring harness, multiple fittings, fuel tank, sensors.
I did some swapping and selling, so that includes those items too. Such as, I bought the engine with a corvette oil pan, sold that bought a truck pan, sold that got an F-body pan. Did similar things with wiring harnesses too. For me, since my truck didn't come with an engine or tranny, it was pretty much a no brainer. I decent running 350 and TH 350 with headers and exhaust and everything else probably would have run at least $2k |

I'm at about $3800, however, I started with the LQ4 and bored it to a 370, added LS6 heads, cam, etc. Using 4l80e trans. I used ECE's motor mounts and the Thorley headers are simply fantastic. If you go with a custom FI fuel tank, add at least 800 clams to that figure. Plug and play harness? Another 800 bones.
I stayed with factory flashed puter and modified my own harness. I've had the GMPP dizzy setup, but sold it when I mocked it up. Not real appealing to me and seemed like a step in the wrong direction. That's my $.02....... Good luck and keep us posted. |

Great info guys, this is what I need.
I was leaning away from the GMPP dizzy setup, but wasn't sure. But $800 for the DIS versus $1500 for a dizzy? No question, lol. I'll probably run a stock intake and FI setup, as it's a 3/4 ton truck, i'd rather have the torque from the truck intake than the looks from the LS1/6 intake.
