What are these called, fender splash shields?

These go on the top edge of the front fender, under the corner cowl of the cab. I am guessing they were added by GM to help keep dirt and mud from splashing on up into the cowl area and on into the door jamb..... My guess. Does anyone know what they are called for sure and some of them had adhesive on the bottom where a rubber weatherstrip might have been attached, some don't.

someone who knows about these please educate me with all the info you have about them. Not all trucks I have torn down have had these only a small percentage so I am thinking they were added after the vehicle was built, like a recall or something. Once again someone help me out here

Re: What are these called, fender splash shields?

I don't know what they are called either. I can see how they would reduce the mud and water under the cowl corners and running down the fenders. I just pulled a fender from a '62 on Sunday, that appeared to be original, and it did not have those. I believe this is the first front fender I have had my hands on that did not have one of those on it.

Re: What are these called, fender splash shields?

It is hit and miss with no rhyme or reason that I have found whether they have them or not. I have found them on 1/2, 3/4, 1 tons, even 2 ton trucks.

Now even time I get one in the scrap yard I take the cowl off just to see if this truck has them or not.... it has become an Easter egg hunt for me

Still searching for answers

My 65 has them, but only the driver's side had the rubber "glued" to it...

Maybe someone else will chime in with even more info. At least I know what they are called and GM actually had a part number listed for them.

Re: What are these called, fender splash shields?

I'm sure bodymen tossed many aside over the years when replacing fenders, but I had one early 64 that had no trace of them, and some of the top pieces have seals stapled, some have glued seals, some have no seal.

I had them on my '60 and will put them back. Who knows it may be the one piece that holds the whole front end together.

Now I have to go look at mine. If it doesn't have them, could mean that it was built on a Friday around quittin' time
