72 K25 front driveshaft removal

Hi all
I have to rebuild the joints on the front driveshaft on the 72 but I am having no luck at finding any information on the removal process. I see 4 bolts that appear to be holding the shaft onto the transfer case but when I removed one oil started to run out.....do I need to drain the case for this job??

Any help would sure be appreciated.

It sounds like you removed the bolts from the seal retainer. Look for a metal strap or small u bolt holding the u joint to the yoke. Those are the nuts or bolts you need to remove to remove the driveline. I'll post a pic later if someone doesn't beat me to it.

Okay, thanks......I'll have a better look and see if I can find them.
Should I remove the cross member to get at them?

Re: 72 K25 front driveshaft removal

No cross member removal needed. Get a box wrench. Rotate drive shaft so that you can get the wrench on it and work it too. Hold the driveshaft from turning with pry bar at the other end. Remove bolt. Your gonna have to feel you way around a little, but it will work. Its a PITA job and its hard to get a decent turn out of the wrench.
Watch out for dirt in the eyes.
