Re: 64 chevy c 10

Just grind the end of the A arm 'til it's not rubbing.
Unless of course it's flat out not fitting.

Re: 64 chevy c 10

How much material do you think you'd have to remove??
If you take too much, you risk the integrity of the ball joint support.
What spindle are you running?
What A arms?
Is it lowered?
I've never heard of "spacing"..?...anything tapered needs to be fully seated and moving the rotor outward is going to affect caliper function.
If the grinding is done "tastefully",i.e. maintaining the radius on the lip of the A arm, you'd be hard pressed to find a mechanic that will notice as there are no "specifications" in this area.
Not sure who you're going to call, but I think your best answer will come from the folks here.
I'm sure more people will chime in....if not, have a Moderator move it to the suspension section.
BTW,Welcome to the addiction

Re: 64 chevy c 10

Had the same problem a while back with mine. I have the CPP modular drop spindles. I began pursuing it with CPP but ended up just grinding my lower arm. I suspected that the drop spindles were machined incorrectly and allowed the hub to be to far inboard. As I said, I started to pursue this with CPP but saw that it was going to cost me more with shipping back and forth, I was going to be the real financial loser in the whole mess.
I did not want to do it, but the grinding did work and I don't think I compromised the strength of the lower arm.

As a side note, I noticed that something might be wrong when I went to install the rotor and the castle nut went on so far that the whole for the cotter pin in the spindle did not engage the nut. I added some washers to bring the nut out on the spindle so the cotter pin would engage.
Not what I like but I settled for this arrangement for now.

Re: 64 chevy c 10

Is there a chance those spindles with designed to use the 1" rotor instead of the 1.25" rotor? I don't know that the two rotors will even fit on the same spindle, but that sure doesn't seem like a correct fit.

If you check the discbrake thread, it says to use the c-20 lower a-arms with the modular spindles, there must be a differance.......

I got the kit from performance online and from what I've read from people on here so far is that the reproduction stuff doesn't always fit like it should.

Good to know. Late, but good to know.

I would think the vendor (CPP) would know this and let the customer (me) know when he orders the parts.

Oh well, live and learn and bendover.

Re: 64 chevy c 10

I have installed two sets of these CPP modular spindles without a single problem. Both use the 1 1/4" thick rotor on 1/2 ton lower a-arms. No rubbing issues, castle nuts lines up correctly.

It does seem that they are using the '73 and later ball joints and tie rods, regardless of application. My '65 truck had '73+ spindles/brakes already so I just swapped the modular spindles in place. Nothing changed. The '65 panel, doing the full conversion, it came with new '73+ ball joints and outer tie rod ends. An adapter tie rod sleave and '63-'70 inner tie rods to use the original center link.

I believe this is if you want to use '88-'98 spindles. You need to use a C20 lower arm as these spindles use a 3/4 ton size lower ball joint, which will not fit into the 1/2 ton arm. By using this generation of spindles, you can use all factory GM parts and have either factory 5 or 6 lug rotors. I thought about doing this and even had a set of spindles but since I wanted dropped spindles and would have to buy them anyways, I just bought one for the 1/2 ton arms.
