What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
I will be getting rid of the behind the seat gas tank when i do my truck and i dont want to have to weld in a filler panel where the old neck protrudes through the cab corner (i dont want to mess up the patina). . I was curious if anyone has done anything "interesting" with their old filler neck hole. Thanks

I put a frenched antenna in the hole, but I kept bumping into it so I closed it and moved it to the other side.

For the longest time, I just cut off about 6" of the stock filler neck and stuck a cap on it, then just pushed it into the hole to look like the original tank was still there.

Would be a prefect spot to install a bottle opener to crack open those buds in the cooler.........

You could put one of those spring loaded snakes in a can with the gas cap on it.
Just think of the shock a gas thief would get |

beer holder .... .. they make a patch panel for filling it in , but cheaper just to make your own with some steel and body filler

That works as long as no one else "ever" puts gas in it. I have a friend who loaned his truck to a relative and the relative ran several gallons of gas inside the cab before he figured out it was running out the door and not going in the tank. If you leave the filler neck put a locking gas cap on it and put the key to it in your tool box in the shop. You could cut off the filler pipe short and then plug the inside end of the filler pipe. That way no gas station accidents would happen. |

Re: What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
hahahaha thats hilarious. For about a month, either the cap fell off, or someone stole it, but I was driving around without a gas cap on the "fake filler neck". So EVERY SINGLE TIME I got slowed down, at a stop sign, at a gas station, ect, someone would always be right next to me, leaning out of their car yelling that I forgot to put the cap back on.

Hmmmm, could have some fun with that. Leave the cap off and rig a windshield washer pump hooked up to a washer nozzle mounted in the neck. Could have some fun with a remote and people walking by at car shows or ?...... Last edited by DENALI; 02-23-2012 at 10:58 PM. |

Re: What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
Without wanting to weld, I think your options might be limited to leaving the original neck/cap in there for a while.
I also went the "frenched antenna" route when I moved my tank: Remember to install a small drain tube in the bottom of the cylinder when doing this. Then you can attach a length of drain hose and route it through the floor to let any rain or wash water out. or you could fill the hole with daisies ala VW Bug dash vase.

Re: What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
Looks like a handy spot for a beer tap.
you could run a keg in the bed on its side and pass it off as a moon tank. Plumb the tap to it. Need to engineer a refrigerant system but it coulf be done. Think of all the folks at a car show in august drooling over the hefewiezen dripping from the tap... Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
This is how I solved my what to do with the hole left after removing in cab tank problem. If one wished to go back to original, just cut the spot welds.
The already cut and shaped to fit filler patch was purchased from www.ifantimachine.com, the short filler neck and cap was purchased from Boyd Welding, a new neck rubber was trimmed to fit after a sealer was used to guard against water intrusion. |

Re: What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
I have the filler neck with a locking gas cap in my 59. Once I get time to re paint the 59 I will close it up. Big Berhta was welded shut and looks like the other side.

Re: What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
Old thread but a friend tells the story about loaning his "work truck" to his nephew and forgetting to tell him that he had moved the tank to the bed of the truck and there was no tank inside the truck. It still had the filler neck and gas cap though and you guessed it, the nephew decided to fill the truck up for him and stuck the nozzle in the neck in the cab and proceeded to pump several gallons of gas before figuring out that there was no tank in the truck.

French in an antenna or fill it.

There was a pic floating around on the web somewhere of a guy who took a piston and connecting rod and shoved it in the hole piston first.

Re: What to do with the old gas filler neck hole?
For a no weld solution I have seen many 2+ ton trucks with a factor fuller clip which clips into the existing opening. Sorry for the bad picture but that's the only ones I have and the phone was all scratched up when taking them.
