Re: Is the factory DARK BLUE 66' C-10 SWB BBW a RARE COLOR?
I don't know if any historical records exist by color selection, but from memory I'd say it was one of the relatively rare colors. I don't remember ever seeing one in real life. The most popular color I remember on "personally owned" trucks was the color on oem4me's truck:
I'm partially color blind so I don't know the technical name for this color, but I liked it a lot and was as common as VW beetles back then. Most business trucks, as well as a lot of trucks carrying campers were basic white. At least where I lived those two colors comprised the majority. Everything else made up the minority. And for reference here's a photo of the Danbury Mint truck. Sadly the blue version is now out of production. Last edited by markeb01; 02-24-2012 at 02:16 AM. |

Re: Is the factory DARK BLUE 66' C-10 SWB BBW a RARE COLOR?
My dad had that color on a 2 ton grain truck he bought new in 66. on a GMC. It was optioned up for my mom to drive to the grainery, and no one else dare touch it without incurring her wrath. It was a v6 with power steering and power brakes and some other features I can't recall but I can remember almost everyone that talked about it said they had never seen one like it before. He sold it in 1987 with 13,000 miles for only 500 less than he paid for it. It was really kept up as it had not been in the rain until like 1980 and it got caught out of the tractor shed in a blowup storm. I loved that truck and wish I had it back now

Re: Is the factory DARK BLUE 66' C-10 SWB BBW a RARE COLOR?
I've seen the color and I like it! A record of how many trucks came with which options including paint color would be nice, but I don't think it exists. Not the case for other cars, like Corvettes for instance. Those lucky owners can easily tell just how rare/common any particular option or color was.
Personally, I think the dark blue is a great color and one of my faves, and would guess that it is not all that common, but there are other colors that are even less common, like basic black or silver Last edited by oem4me; 02-24-2012 at 02:16 PM. |

Re: Is the factory DARK BLUE 66' C-10 SWB BBW a RARE COLOR?
Yeah sadly the PO rattle canned the entire truck and monkey'd with the original paint to the point that it wasn't recoverable.

Re: Is the factory DARK BLUE 66' C-10 SWB BBW a RARE COLOR?
In my experience dark blue is a seldom-seen color these days, especially on original-paint trucks. I'm not sure if darker colors just didn't hold up as well over time or if they simply weren't as popular to begin with. Whatever the case, I sure don't see many dark color trucks with factory paint that's survived well. Here's my '66 Custom Camper in dark blue/white (code 538) still sporting it's born-with paint.
