for those of you with 275/60/15's in the rear, how much air pressure are you running?

When I was running wide tires on the back of my 71 I had to run some really low air pressures to keep the tires from wearing out in the middle of the tread. I think I ran 15 pounds. There just is no weight on the back tires in these trucks. While this is fine for running around town, you really need to pump them back up for any extended highway driving so they don't overheat and fail.

I agree with tom, you need to run 15-20 around town to avoid funny tire wear. But for higher speed, longer travel, air up to 32.

i was running like 30 and they have worn in the center. i have em at like 28 now i'll see how they do.
you would think the 9" and the fuel cell would add enough weight.
it also doesn't help that i only have 2/3 of a bed floor and its plywood

i'm never buying these tires again because they suck in the rain

I also run 32psi. When i had 255/60's on the back, they had no abnormal wear...i haven't really looked at my 275/60's in the month they have been on there. I will have to check them out tomorrow. They are a little wide for my 8" rims...

I think the 275/60/15's are perfect for a rear tire on 8" wheels... My buddy put the same sizes as my truck on his 72 but he has 7" rallies.. lol can you say ballooned out rear tires!

I have 275/60/15's on the rear of my 69 2wd and 235/70/15's on the front. This gives both tires the exact same height.

Originally I had both tires on 8" wheels but the back tires looked really ballooned out compared to the front and I was also worried about tire pressure and wearing out the center. At 30 psi the edges of the tire didn't even touch the ground with the truck empty.

Now I have switched the rear to 10" wheels. The tire sits flat on the ground with 30 psi but they look a little stretched out to me.

I really wish somebody made 9" wheels. I think 275/60/15's would fit 9" wheels perfectly.

yeah, I had 275/50/15 on a 10" wheel and ran 30-32 psi, when they wore out it was pretty even. Now I'm running 295/50/15...only have 6k on them and no noticable wear. I think the center wear is caused by the narrow rims with the 275s

I agree....a 15x9 wheel would fit great with some 275/60's....somebody really needs to make them. That with a 15x8 in the front and some 255/60's would be a really good looking combo i think. My 275's are a little bit ballooned....but not too bad. They look meaty though

I went from 10" to 8.5" wide wheels with 275 60 15 rear and 235 60 15 in the front T/A's and will run em at 30psi. Still awaiting disc conversion

I know that these arn't the same size as you all are using but it seams that my right rear wears out faster that the rest. 295/50/15 @ 32 on a 10" rim. hmmmmmm

If you just wanna go straight i'd put bout 25psi in it. I've found if you wanna turn fast you need to bump pressures up to bout 40psi.

on my 9 3/4 inch wide wheels, i found mine like being pumped up all the way. (I used a durometer to come to this conclusion)

I am running a 285/70 15 in the back at 32 psi and i have no problems with wear. They are on 8 inch wide wheels. With it being that tall and wide people always ask if its mini tubbed.
