68 Rear Springs and 72 Rear Springs Whats The Difference? LIFT
I have a 68 K10 I am restoring. My goal is to put a 2-3 inch suspension lift on it to run 33's with out rubbing. It has just a mono type rear spring on it. The Skyjacker lift that I am looking at for my model 68 only offers the rear block. But if I fudge my year up to a 72 it offers rear springs. The 72's are a multi leaf spring.
Before I spend the cash will the rear springs fro the 72 kit work on my 68? I know that I am not the first to go through this. Just wanted to swap out the 40+ year old springs. Any Info Would Be Very Appreciated!!! Thanks

Re: 68 Rear Springs and 72 Rear Springs Whats The Difference? LIFT
I haven't *seen* 67-68 leafs myself. But I've read online (where everything is true )that they are 2-3/4" wide while the 69-72 springs are 2-1/2" wide.....
How wide are yours? I know the ones on my 66 are 2-1/2" wide, so it seems weird to me that GM would have put a wider spring in for two years only.

I believe the 68's fronts are 3" longer that 69-72, you can have a custom set of 68's made a reasonable cost.

Re: 68 Rear Springs and 72 Rear Springs Whats The Difference? LIFT
I measure the 68's today as well as a buddy's 78. They both measured 56" eye bolt to eyebolt. The only thing with the 68 where it bolts to the shackle the spring measured right at 3", then where it bolts to the axle it measured about 2.5". So I think my main issue is going to be where the spring bolts to the shackle?

You could use some sort of spacer between the spring and shackle. This really shouldnt have any negative affects or be unsafe.
