Fuel lines?
I'm thinking it's time to run new lines on the 67 what has every one else used? Should i go with stainless, braided, or just go with rubber? The lines on now are both metal and rubber and the rubber one are looking pretty rough. I'd hate to burn up my truck after 5 yrs restoring it lol.

Re: Fuel lines?
Buy 3/8" brake line and fab your own....very easy and you only need to use
(2) small pieces of rubber; between the frame rail piece and the fuel pump and between the gas tank piece and the frame rail. You should be able to go hard line all the way from the fuel pump to the carb. Here's a partial pic of mine. |

Re: Fuel lines?
You can get pre-bent stuff from inlinetube.com or most of the truck specific vendors but I'd guess they are just reselling their products. The one upside of ordering from your favorite truck specific vendor is that their website probably won't suck as much as inline tube's. You can also order stainless fuel lines from inline.

Re: Fuel lines?
My local parts store has some 3/8 steel line in 60" sections for $6. I'll probably go that route and put a fuel filter at the union along the frame.
If you bend your own line, invest or borrow a high qaulity bender... it will make all the difference in how easy a job it is. Last edited by mcmlxix; 03-01-2012 at 03:36 AM. |

Re: Fuel lines?
I will be running an efi setup for an LQ9 6.0L, about 60 psi constant pressure, regulated at the in tank pump...
Why is it not a good idea for a mechanical pump? |

Re: Fuel lines?
mechanical pumps are not as efficient sucking thru filters as pushing thru them after the pump is what i've read and seen reported of many TV shows over the years

Re: Fuel lines?
Here is what I have found over the years. If you run a fuel filter in the suction line of a mechanical fuel pump you run the risk of vapor lock due to the pressure drop across the fuel filter.
I had a vapor lock problem on a motor home for years before I realized this and removed the fuel filter in the suction line of the mechanical fuel pump. Some people do run a fuel filter in the suction line of a mechanical fuel pump until the fuel from the gasoline tank clears up of rust and such.

Re: Fuel lines?
I just did this to my truck two weeks ago. Spent about $30. Took about an hour.
I got two 60" sections and a 48" section of 3/8" straight, pre-terminated line from Advanced auto. The fittings will be as much if not more than the line. You will need a good bender...one that pulls the tube while it bends it. If you use a cheap bender, you'll crush the line. I also used a double flare tool to reterminate the lines that I ended up cutting to make them shorter. Make sure you know what size fitting is on your sending unit. Use a straightened out coat hanger or wire to mock up the bends, then use it as a guide to bend the tube. |
