4wd Longhorn?

Did they make a 4wd Longhorn? I can't recall ever seeing one. I'm sure there are some conversions out there. Post pick if you have them!

Re: 4wd Longhorn?

No, GM never built them. But some conversion companies have and like you said there are some out there. Here's mine last spring.

The white one isn't mine.

Re: 4wd Longhorn?

There is another board member who has a very nice black and charcoal grey 4x4 Longhorn. I'll try to find it and post the pics of it some time.

Re: 4wd Longhorn?

Both NAPCO and Marmom-Herrington did conversions on C/30 trucks so a SRW conversion of a Longhorn is entirely plausable. Still looking for my unicorn M-H Longhorn. Plans are to build one to drive in the mean time. Looking to be Cheyenne Super 30 white on white if things work out. More pictures can be found at www.rusticshadessiberians.com/trucks.

Re: 4wd Longhorn?

That's funny your pic has the diff on the LH side. I need one of those axles. All the conversions I've ever seen had RH drop axles. Napco especially.

It is cool isn't it! Thinking about a Dorf Dana 60 and Hummer military NP242. Closed 70s are expensive and not the most travel friendly for repairs. Here is a right drop DRW version, but gives a clear picture. One thing to remember is I am going for the bolt on aftermarket, reverseable, conversion vs your very nicely done "factory style" conversion.

The only problem with that axle is that those axle shafts won't take the power I'm going to send through them. I used to have a dodge D70 closed knuckle in a conversion and I broke the axles and had a heck of a time finding replacements. For arguement's sake, I could build a custom unit, but I can hardly get anything else done on my project so I better stay with an axle that already is in one piece. If I could find a 79 ford D60 then I would have went with the LH drop axle. It would make my tcase mods null and void.
