Not to hijack, but does anybody know the color of the original shading?

Re: Shaded or tinted windshields

To help clarify-
A tinted windshield refers to the color of the whole glass.
A shaded windshield refers to the top portion to help with sun glare.
The shaded portion is a dark green, almost blue.

Did they make a Soft Ray windshield?

Re: Shaded or tinted windshields

Soft Ray is a trade name for tinted glass.
Like Kleenex is to tissue.
Bondo to body filler,etc.

Re: Shaded or tinted windshields

I understand the name part. My side glass and back windows are Soft Ray............ Brand Name. Suppose I should have said did Soft Ray make a tinted windshield for our trucks like the side glass and was the whole windshield tinted or just shaded at the top?

Re: Shaded or tinted windshields

I don't know.
If your truck has factory A/C,tinted glass would have been used too.
Not sure if they had a shade too.
My original 68 didn't have a/c and has clear glass.
When I was working in glazing,we had a choice of which type of glass to order.
I have a 69 and a 70 also.I'll look at the glass and see what they have.
And,I can ask my brother who is a glazier.

Re: Shaded or tinted windshields

I looked at my trucks.
My 68 has the LOF,clear with sunshade.
My 69 has all LOF clear.
My 70 has all LOF,Soft Ray,no sunshade.It's the one with factory a/c.

Anymore from what I have came across, its very rare to get a truck in with its original windshield these days, I would say at some point your windshield has been changed out. If the truck originally had option A11 softray, this included the softray windshield and they were not shaded at the top, only tinted like the side galss. Below is a thread from a few years ago when I researched this softray VS. shadded upper band issue before. Mel

Re: Shaded or tinted windshields

Thanks everyone, this info clears it up... So if they make a soft ray tinted windshield that is DOT from Musclerodz then I should be able to get my glass tinted by a local tint shop? I know not original but with todays tech, should look good to go.
