Check out this custom camper cheyenne super c20 with a 400!!

talked to the wife only so far; poorly running 400 from CA. Stupid clean and original. Dented fender and a rotted wood bed floor, but way nice for anywhere near here. What's it worth? oh, and check the options; tach dash and it's all there!

Pretty nice truck alright. Just so you know, the truck you bought is a "Custom Camper",as you can see by the emblems on the door and listed on the SPID. How do people get Camper Special out of that?

really? because I said camper special instead of custom camper? f&%!

Anyways, I cleaned it out good. Got the mirrors and remaining trim that I need to get back on. The tool box door is rusted, but not much else. Truck sat for 10 years so I'm going to drain all the fluids, spray down teh cylinders, and start over. He said the tranny slipped, so I'll pull the pan and see what the fluid looks like. Needs a bed floor and a good bath. Think I'll try cleaning ir with CLR as the paint seems pretty decent

Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!

I'm jealous. I have been thinking I'd like to have a C/20 again. They are in their own league and have always been special (oops, there's that word ) to me. It wasn't too many years later that 4wds took over as the majority of trucks. People used to get by just fine with 2wd and common sense...maybe better than they do now with 4wds and no common sense . Anyway,C/20s were the work horses of the time and a feller would do one up proud in it's own way. The short beds were done up as the sporty one and C/20s as the hauler. To me,that's the perfect pair. Of course,I have had the 4wd bug for most of my life,so I guess I need a trio.
And,I meant nothing personal about the Custom Camper thing, although I admit it's a peeve of mine. It surely doesn't upset me and I hope no one gets upset when I correct them. I feel I have to let people know they are mistaken. It's like people calling me Fred when my name is Tim. It totally baffles me how so many look at Custom Camper and get Camper Special out of it,that's all. Come people say Super Cheyenne, too, but not as many.

Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!

Here's some pics. Any guess if the 42,000 miles could be original? I've never seen one this original/solid. It's also got a tilt column. I had to Kroil up the tailgate handle to get the latch pins to come out all the way, and I started putting the long trim back on the passenger so I dont bend it worse. Looks like the lower rear section of woodgrain trim was screwed on, so I might look for another once and get the clips.

Here are some shots of the exhaust; namely the rear brackets and there;s a spot beihnd the carrier bearing where the exhaust dips up; would that be original? obviously the flowmasters are not...

That's a great find. And a Cheyenne Super on top of that!
It's amazing how small these trucks look compared to today's stuff.

Didn't Chevy start using the Camper Special name for the 73-87 trucks?

Nice buy and its a great color too I'd guess 140,000 but no way to know for sure. It probably just hasn't spent that much time on the salty midwest roads. Really nice to see intact cab supports!

I notice the same looking at my 01 side by side with my 72. A regular cab longbed today is 133" wheelbase. It took a longhorn back in the day to have that wheelbase. The cabs are way bigger now and body panels are taller. I wish the newer trucks had the wide beds of the 67-72's though.

Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!

She's a beaut! Did you get it in Cali or somebody else had and brought it back a while ago? I'm personally getting all the old cars/trucks I can out of SoCal when I move back to the midswest.

I'm guessing the exhaust piping isn't original as I have those humps to clear my trailing arms.

Finally, I had a friend (female type) think my GMC was the equivalent of an 70 S10! The cab may be small, but definitely a fullsize longbed.
