Need some fuel advice

Hey guys

My 84 k10 has been sick lately and I have made her stay home in bed, has been having symptoms of a bad carb for a month or two
the usual

-black smoke
-rough lopey idle
-easy flooding
-stumbling on acceleration
-backfireing when decelerating
etc etc

Well my 'new' carb came in today from Art at Guaranteed Carbs in Florida

I don't have the money to replace the fuel line or tank and was wondering if running an Inline filter and the stock carb filter would be a good bet at stopping anything that may or may not be in the tank/lines

The original filter that came in the truck worked great, then I replaced it with the replacement from AutoZone, I have gone through 3 so far, they just fall apart and clog???

Had the same issue on my 82 S10, went through 7 filters before I found 'the one' that wouldn't fall apart

Anywho-I dropped $180 on the new carb and don't want to mess it up like my old one, and just want to know the cheapest preventative stuff I can do (currently unemployed) and need the truck in good running shape to make money doing odd job work.

I've got an inline,and an in-carb filter on mine,and it works fine.

Buy a quality inline filter from summit racing. Most In store brands are plastic don't filter. Turn to mush or melt or just don't filter anything other than gravel.

Yeah a good inline filter should help and stay away from thorntons gas too.

hey all. Got the new carb set on today, runs and idles a lot better

just has a bit of hesitation/stumbling when driving. If I punch it it clears up
also, it starts hard,and after it sits for about 10-15 minutes, when you try to starrt it, it is hard to start again.

Thinking it may be timing

The truck ran perfectly before my head gaskets went. after that happened, my carb had its adjustments reset (dad did that )
and the timing was set by him too. he was drunk when doing it and swears it is set right

The carb was set from the shop i got it, and is set at factory specs and the only thing I see it being is timing. Is there anybody that knows where I can go for timing adjustment cheap?

I don't want the carb touched as it idles fine.also, the screws for adjustment have been plugged and sealed.

Can't tell you where to get the timing set properly, But...... Each carb has to be set/adjusted to the engine it's installed on for proper operation, In other words.... No two engines are the same in that area. Looking at the pics you posted the adjusters have NOT been plugged/sealed.

You really need the timing set correctly AND the carb adjusted to YOUR engine for best performance and fuel economy.....
