Cruiz control for 60 thru 66

Has anyone tried to put cruiz controll on any of these truck? I drive 200 miles a day and I would like to install cruiz controll on my truck. Can any one suggest ways to do this?

Whoever does it would be my hero! Its the only modern amenity that I truly miss.

Dakota digital has one. I have one for my truck from a modern truck but it's for the ls motor

Theres a couple older car part brands that made a setup called "throttle control knob" or something to that effect ,that was used on older classic cars was basically a extra cable setup that ran to a knob under the dash, you step on the throttle turn the knob to lock the postion of cable and then turn the opposite way to unlock the cable to let the cable loose so the car would decelerate....saw a post on here or the H.A.M.B but cant seem to find it?? I think it would be the easiest cheapest way to do a cruise control type function if you could find one, and would fit into the 60's era theme of our trucks

I bought this one from Summit and installed it in my truck back in 2000:

Surprisingly the price has only gone up $6.00 in twelve years. At first I put the control box on the driver side fender panel, but tired of the clutter:



It was remounted on the inside of the firewall next to the heater. This is viewed through the glove box opening with the liner removed:



It does make a tiny click when switched on, but it doesn’t bother me a bit.

The only thing visible in the engine compartment is the cable. This is about the only photo I have showing it:



I sliced off a stock turn signal arm to mount the switch:



Having done a bunch of these back in the 70’s and 80’s when they operated with a vacuum module, this is by far the easiest type I’ve ever installed, and it works as well as any new car cruise system.

Do you have to have a certain steering column with cruise control for it to plug into? Are they a direct fit? It looks simple enough.

No, my steering column is just a generic GM tilt column. If you look closely you can see the wire for the cruise exits the switch just before it enters the column and runs down the left side of the column to where it connects under the dash. If I was enthusiastic enough to tear the column apart I may have been able to run the wire internally, but I wasn't interested in that much work.

You could get cruise control in the V8 passenger cars in 1963. I had a complete setup which had a Perfect Circle motor for controling the speed. You would attach all the components to the small block and it would have the stock speedometer cable connected to it then a shorter speedometer to your instrument panel speedometer. It had an offset bracket for the altenator tensioner. I have pictures but not saved to this account.
