Turn signal switch/Bright light switch

My 1986 Silverado has the switch for bright/dim on the turn signal lever along with cruise control and wiper blade on off settings. My headlights are stuck in the high beam position and will not switch back to dim. I have read topics here about removing the turn signal switch so I know how to get it out. I am wondering if the bright/dim switch is built into the turn signal switch also. If I buy a new switch and replace it, will this fix my problem. i have been driving with only brights for 1 month, my highway peers are getting impatient.

Re: Turn signal switch/Bright light switch

It's down on top of the column. Under the dash and actuated by a rod. Mine are stuck on low and shut off when I pull the lever. But I haven't felt like digging under the dash to change it.

Re: Turn signal switch/Bright light switch

It sound like its just the switch that is bad, its not part of the turn signal switch, its on the column by the ignition switch. Change the dimmer switch and you should be good.

It uses the same two bolts as your ignition switch. Be careful not to move the ignition switch out of adjustment, or your key settings will be all wrong. They should be a 3/8 nut and two 5/16 bolts, or at least it is on mine. My column is from an 84.

Re: Turn signal switch/Bright light switch

Orielly had the new switch in stock. It was just like you said. I couldnt find a 3/8 wrench any where, (3 tool boxes) so I dropped the column enough to use a ratchet and socket.

Re: Turn signal switch/Bright light switch

No problem! I literally did it the same day you posted this thread, so the information was nice and fresh.
