Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!
prior owner brought it back from california, but I did find a receipt under the seat. I'll double check the city. I spent a little time polishing the hood and managed to get the oxidation off. Put on some cleaner wax and have a decent shine for 40 year old paint!

Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!
little rubbin brought some shine back to the paint. Got the oil changed and sprayed down each cylinder before turning it over a bit. tank was empty so I put good fuel in. fuel pump works but accelerator pump does not. ordered a rebuild kit and got the carb torn down. surprisingly clean but rubber dried up. also found the tranny leak as the speedo cable; anybody know where get new orings?

I'm bettin' on 142,000 miles too. When I bought my Green '67 the guy swore up and down that the 42,000 miles on the odometer was original. It was a nice truck but I didn't think so. One day I was going through the owners manual and the original owner kept the service records in the back of the book. It had turned over 100,000 miles in 1983... .. He couldn't believe it when I showed it to him. I didn't care, it was a nice truck and I got it for a good price, just like you did...LockDoc

Are you sure it hasn't had some painting done? The side molding being screwed back on is usually a sign.

Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!
it could have be repainted, but the only trim with extra screws is the lower passenger rear. I dont see any color change or over spray. any other way to tell on a respray?
Also curious any way to judge if I need to run a lead additive. Never had that old of an engine.

Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!
congrats on a great find! It does look really clean but both the badging and the spid says the motor is a 400 which is a small block yet the picture you posted is a big block. They must have done a swap at some time. Regardless it's a nice find for the price. Enjoy it!

Re: Check out this camper special cheyenne super with a 400!!
Got the 402 runnin!! those dual 44s sound awesome. Normally I like em loud only when you step on em, but it is an old BBC! Had to rebuild the carb (primarily for the accelerator pump seal as the rest looked very fresh) and replace the fuel pump. the pump was a royal pain, but I got it. Starts up and runs great with plenty of oil pressure. I lost about a quart of tranny fluid when I replaced the o ring and seal on the speedo housing, so it needs about 1.5 quarts before I can see if it'll drive. I'm happy the motor is good but afraid I may not be so lucky on the tranny....
I got the tailgate chrome cleaned up and reinstalled and I'm running a lead additive because I cant say if it has original valve seats.
