Door is shot advise needed
As you can see from the pic door is shot. Rather than replacing the metal etc, are the 67-72 doors the same? I have a 72 so I was hoping to see if I could find one in a yard somewhere that is better than what I have. I dont really want to buy an aftermarket after hearing all the horror stories.
Would a 71 or 70 fit on a 72? |

Re: Door is shot advise needed
they will work but the 72 doors have a screw on the inside by the vent window

Re: Door is shot advise needed
I beleive the '72 doors a different from the rest. They have an additional screw or bolt that helps to reinforce the door> Also the interior panels are different, and mount different, and something with the window mechanism is different. Here's a couple threads that might help:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/tech/doors.html http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=104767 Depending on how fussy you are with the restoration, you could just use any 67-72 door, and most likely people won't really notice..

Re: Door is shot advise needed
Thanks guys. I guess now I need to find a door. Here in missouri we dont get the pick of the litter of 67-72's. I hope I can find one
But yea not picky for restoration. Just fixing what I can and just roll with what I have. |

Re: Door is shot advise needed
Have you tried grinding off the paint to see whats under the paint bubbles? On a parts truck I bought, the bubbling was similar to that, but it was from someone who put bondo over surface rust and used crappy paint. Turned out the doors were really solid, with only one quarter size hole between both.

Re: Door is shot advise needed
I havent. However if you look at the far right of the door I can almost life the entire outer portion off and there is nothing but a huge hole below it. I guess I could get a patch panel piece for it, however I'm a complete n00b when it comes to body work, welding etc.

Ahhh yeah, now I can see the corner is pretty well gone... Most likely would be easier to get a different door then.
Be a good door to practice some bodywork on though haha

Re: Door is shot advise needed
the guts and door panels from a 72 door can b transfered to a 67-71 door with a little effort and used asis without problems but there will be the telltale sign of the missing extra scew s that will give it awaay/ but you can have a door that opens and closes and windows that roll up an down
just how important is being "factory correct" to ya

Re: Door is shot advise needed
I am using '71 doors on my '67 project without a problem. I am not worried about the minor differences since my truck will be made up of parts from at least 5 different year trucks.

Re: Door is shot advise needed
The new doors are supposed to be alot better. The shop I go to put some a truck they're redoing and said they fit really well. There's a thread on here somewhere about them.

Re: Door is shot advise needed
Well I did what I could in my attempt to repair the door, and it was a waste of my time. I would rather get a new door. I don't want a repro. So with that being said does anyone have a decent driver side 72 door for sale?

Re: Door is shot advise needed
Yes I've been looking .Most aren't a 72 . I don't have the skills to convert a non 72 door to a 72 I.e. the vent screw hole dimple etc.

Re: Door is shot advise needed
Full door re-skinning might be a better choice. Not that hard to do either. Little bit of patience I think most could handle the task. Hinge areas on the door n the door bottoms on most doors I have found have seen better days in our area.

Re: Door is shot advise needed
If that is the worst part of the door you could get a replacement panel for the door bottom. A little welding and pinch over the outside edge and good as new. The panel is not that expensive either.
