Thumbs up Fuel Mileage Check '69 C/10

I was cleaning out the glovebox after my recent two day Desert Road Rally and found the gas tickets from last August when I initially bought this truck in Dallas TEXAS and drove it home to L.A. ~

I also had the stack of gas receipts from that Road Rally so I figured them all up .

It has consistently achieved 14 ~ 16.7 MPG's , a very few tanks have come in at 17. + MPG .

All in all I'm highly pleased .

Talking Re : Oops !

Whats under the hood

Engine : 250 C.I.D. L6 with new bottom end and seriously wobbly valve guides .

Carb : original Rochester MV Series Monojet 1BBL .

Tire size : LT235R15 Falkens , 28" O.D , I wish thy were larger diameter by my son insisted I try these Falkens and they're great .

Axle ratio : Unk. ~ I need to pop the cover off and see .

Trans : Turbo - Hydromatic 350 .

Ignition upgraded to Delco HEI from a '77 Nova 250 but the mileage remains the same ~ it just runs a whole lot better .

10.8 with 350. I had a 305 in it and got 14.6. Guess I should have rebuilt it.

Re: Fuel Mileage Check '69 C/10

I just started driving my 1969 3 on the tree with overdrive ( although I haven't used the O/D yet) 307 2bbl around the city and the gas gauge is not going down as fast as the one in my 396/TH400 72 truck.

Re: Fuel Mileage Check '69 C/10

Since I purchased last February, I get 14.2-14.9. Towed 14' dump trailer full of manure and it dropped to 11.8. Odometer may be off a little due to tire size. 350/350 with 4:10 gears.

Thumbs up Re: Fuel Mileage Check '69 C/10

These are all pretty good numbers ~ I hope folks will continue to keep posting them up .

I was always deliriously happy whenever my old '49 3100 with 235 , Muncie SM420 and 3.55 final drive , 32" tires , got up to 12 MPG....

I hope my new tranny will improve the fuel economy a bit .

I can hear the rear end sing @ Highway speeds so I might be swapping it out soon , anyone know if a 3/4 ton (C/20 rear end will bolt in ? . springs etc. all the same ? .

TIA ,

12 city and 15 highway with a 250 4 speed C-20. Highway speed is limited to 60-65 and I would like to swap the 5:13 gears for 4:11's

Consistent 10MPG. 402 .30 over with Comp 268 cam, Turbo 400, 3.08 open rear end with 20" tires and wheels. If I pushed it down Mount Everest with the engine not running I might get 15MPG:-)

I have all stats the same as yours but I have a 4.11 rear end, 3 speed manual, and points ignition....I think mine got 10 mpg that last time it was checked (1980's?)

Overdrive? I sure wish my 3ott had that. Is it something that can be added?

I usually get in the 12-16 range in '70 with a 402 and a three on the tree.
