The Teardown

I got this 71 blazer for the seats and the motor and a couple odds an ends, now when I went to look at the blazer the seats were in nice shape and the guy told me it was a good running 350 after he started it up it sounded great. So I was sold the body was shot but it had what I wanted, I was planning on taking the 350 out and dropping it in my 70 c-10. The guy I bought this thing off of was a Body guy who did some resto's in the past and did some mechanic's stuff as well and seemed like a real straight shooter........well I will never take anouther mans word and a hand shake again after tearing down the blazer and pulling the motor I find out its a 305 so i'm just alittle hot...so i email the guy and he pretty much told me to go sh!t in my hat.....so now my blood is just boiling........and I thought back to years ago when I bought my first c-10 and it had a little noise to it and the guy told me it was a bad flywheel so after I bought it and checked it out it wasnt the flywheel but a bearing so I called the guy and he gave me 200 bucks he said that would pay for a rebuild kit or he would get me anouther 350....well I took the 200 and I was fine with that...........am I wrong for wanting him to make this right and am I wrong for thinking that a mans word and a handshake is worth something. I couldnt see the numbers on the front of the block and I didnt want to ask the guy if he would take the alternator of and sand down the paint to get the numbers, I just took his word cause he is a truck guy and he doest live real far from me so i thought he wouldnt screw me I guess I was wrong. Sorry for ranting trying to get cool down but here are some pics

Re: The Teardown

No. The jack from the factory was a bottle/screw type. By the way, I believe that you are justified in being upset. If he doesn't live too far away, take him to small claims court. Usually only costs a few bucks to file and you tell your story to a judge. Even if you don't get anything, you let him know that there are consequences to dishonesty as he will have to show up.

Re: The Teardown

Thanks Rsavage for the info, I wrote him anouther email saying take the motor back and give me a 350 or take the motor back and give me 300 ( 300 is about the average price for a used 350 around here) or give 200 and I'll sell the 305 so I am waiting to here back from him. I'm trying to be nice to him I even read all of the emails to the wifey before I send them to make sure they dont sound like a threat. I have sold a lot of cars and a lot of parts and I have always stood behind what I have sold. I'll have to look in to the court thing.

Re: The Teardown

rsavage i wanna thank you for the idea cause it was alot better than my idea ( it involved gas,matches,3 iron a couple bags of surgar and a half dozen stray cats<-----dont ask i cant tell) But i did talk to a lawyer....just so happens I play softball for one and he told me to take him to court cause thats not what i paid for and since i have the guys ad that he sent to me stating it had a 350 it would be false advertising. so what i was thinking was go to every boneyard and an get a quote on a good running 350 and take the average plus court costs and try and get that. I was talking to a guy who comes to my fathers garage that does a lot of motor swaps and he said a 305 is only worth there weight in scrap and from what he has found 350's go for around 400 to 500 running out of the junkyard
