Who could make it for me?

ok awhile back I had posted a thread about a spindle shaft that was crooked and I didnt know about it until after I bought it. I since then took the shaft out and was about to put another one in but the replacement is too small by like 25 thousandths or so. Then I came up with an idea that I could get someone brave enough that has access to a lathe and the skills to make me another shaft simply because I dont want to buy another set of drop spindles. Let me know if any of you guys are capable of making such thing. I have the shaft I took out to duplicate measurements and all.

That is a very important part of the truck. The lability issues if it were to fail are about as extreme as they come. Personally, as a truck owner, I wouldn't want to take that risk.
As a machinist I wouldn't want the liability unless I had qualified engineers and good insurance. If I had those the price I would charge you would make you run quick.

You might as well consider the cost of a new set of spindles the cost of repairing your truck correctly. The last thing anyone would want is a wheel or spindle shaft coming off at highway speeds. Imagine what that would cost if it would happen.

Build up the shaft you have now and have it turned back down the size you need.

Those shafts are hardened on the outside and softer in the middle and use special alloy metals and a no heat machining process. I wouldn't machine one at all unless I was the manufacturer
If anything it may be safer to build up the metal on the backing plate of the spindle and machine it to fit the new spindle shaft

Dude are you serious? Do you really want to risk loosing a wheel with a cobbled up spindle? Bite the bullet and do it right.

You can buy drop spindles separate. I your real desperate call the manufacturer and buy just a proper sized spindle shaft

good question...I dont know would be my answer. I wanna say they say western on them but dont remember. How would I know what drop they are. My guess would be measuring from the top of the lower part where the lower bj goes in.

This is actually a very good idea, but there's only one way to do it right. Anyone know how it should be done? I happen to know, let's see if anyone else does. I'll send you a PM, I can fix it and it will be better and safer than new.

Ok, Not trying to be a know it all here, but metal is my field. The spindle shaft we're talking about is probably neither hardened or any real special alloy. It is probably just a good grade of mild steel, and retains it's strength by design and thickness. Hardening would just make the surface tougher and there is no real need for that and could cause it to be brittle. In cases where extreme pressure or fatigue is a factor such as aircraft parts, a part is shot-peened after being machined to relieve stress. Theses parts are not, they are freshly machined with no indication of shot-peening or discoloration from heat-treating, or at least the ones I've seen. I would be much more concerned about the strength of the cast spindle than I would the shaft itself. If you think about the overall design, the suspension absorbs the majority of the stress and the weakest point would probably be the ball joints. Just my 2 cents worth.

So I appreciate the thought of fixing it but I think I'm just gonna lean towards a spindle manufacture. Someone else posted a link of summit and there's the one I need I think. I just wanna know how to measure my other spindle to match the drop that it is.
