Fill in the filler...or not?

I'm torn. I've relocated the gas tank under the bed and removed the in cab tank for more storage room. Part me of likes having the filler neck on the cab for the nostalgic look of the truck, but the other part of me says why have it if it serves no use. What do you guys think?

I say if your paint is in good shape and you dont want to spend time covering it up, leave the filler neck there. Whats it gonna hurt?

I relocated a 78 Blazer tank to the back of my truck as an after thought. (I had already painted the truck) and still have the cab filler neck. I would have welded the filler hole shut if I would have relocated the tank before paint. If you leave it for looks, I would recomend putting a locking gas cap on the cab filler neck to keep someone from unknowingly filling your interior with gas.

my paint looks like ass LOL. PO rattle canned the entire truck with 2 different kinds of black paint. So I'm equally going ghetto and repainting it with tractor paint, but all the same color.

If I do keep it I was going to cut a square in the top of the cap and use a carriage bolt and piece of flat steel with a nut on the other side of the filler neck to keep it from being opened. Looks pretty unobtrusive if done carefully. You're not speaking from experience I hope XtechX.

On my 71 I put a bolt sideways on the inside, and used cable ties on the ears of the cap to hold it to the bolt. No one can open it, and it looks stock. I left the rubber washer that the filler neck stuck through so it looks stock.

NO, I'm not speaking from experience, but with my luck it would happen eventually....lol
I think I got my chrome locking cap for $9.99 from the truck and car shop.

Or better yet leave the fill neck and have it go to a small tank that holds a gallon of deisel fuel so the next guy that siphons your tank gets a surprise. Kind of defeats the purpose of moving the tank, but would be funny.

My buddy said something similar about putting a small reserve tank there in it's place. Not a bad idea but I don't really want to put the tank back in the cab.

Another thing I've seen is people leave the cap with the neck there, then they use it as a place to put an electrical switch or some tools... with a bottom on the other end.

If it's not in the budget to get into it right now, leave it alone.

That's not a half bad idea. Hardwire in a power inverter and you can have a AC plug right in there. hook it up to a kill switch on the dash and you don't have to worry about killing the battery

I removed the filler rear tank, filled the radio monster deal they had, took off evey piece of trim as well. I like the plain simple approach. Before any one asks I tossed the old trim it was beat to death,

When I bought my truck, the tank had been moved under the bed. The filler was left in place (thankfully) and they had put a power door lock switch in the filler neck with a locking cap. Kinda defeated the purpose of power door locks if you need a key to access the switch. I removed the under bed tank and replaced the proper tank behind the seat. If the filler had been filled, i would not have bought the truck because of all the extra work involved in putting it back. Something I learned years ago with my '57 chevy, fads come and go and even my own tastes change over time so any mods that I make are bolt on so they can be changed easily.
