Well, the thumbs up from people is pretty cool.Driving(and I mean that literally,you have to drive one of these trucks not just sit in it like a living room.)Making cruises and shows to show others the improvements you made.The thrill of the search for that elusive part,whether it's a tilt,factory tissue holder,or a specific body style(short Stepper) or any other rare or hard to find part is always a boost when you find it.The knowledge that you did all/most of the work yourself is sweet.
But I think the best part is the number of friends,and just plain cool folks I know from here with like intrset.They're always supportive,helpful and just plain fun.

Owning - reliability. I bought my truck, I drive my truck w/o any major repairs.
Working it/Using it - Simplicity. My engine bay has an engine in it, and a battery. Just the way I like it. Only vacuum line is to the distributor. Only sensors or anything close to a computer is a temp sending unit, and gauges  And lastly. ROOM TO WORK.

I like working on these old trucks because it brings back memories of times when life was less complicted.
I am an old guy now and use to drive these trucks when I was young and they were near new. Now I tend to like driving these trucks down old country roads listening to songs that were popular when these trucks and I were young. My oldest son and his family all have trucks from this era so we spend quite a bit of time working on and talking about these trucks.

As a Chevelle, Impala and Chevy truck enthusiast (nut), I have to say these trucks are the easiest and least costly to work on and restore out of all.
Almost everything is available new or just about anything can be found used as there seems to be a good supply of parts still around at good prices. (except Custom/30 emblems and flyswatter long arm mirrors that I've been searching for with NO luck!)  Compare repro parts for these trucks to Chevelle & Impala and you'll see these parts are in most if not all cases less money to buy. (some times alot less) Use a fender for example... Let's see, what else.... how about the fact that everybody likes 'em. I have yet to meet anyone that doesn't like these trucks. These are and will continue to be the best looking trucks ever produced! IMO.

The satisfaction of fixing it myself is number 1, and the knowledge I gain working on this truck comes in handy fixing my other vehicles. I have saved thousands in labor...that just means more money for fun parts!
Number 2 is the cool factor. It's a lot of fun driving this old truck. you're much more in tune with the vehicle and the road when you don't have climate control, heated seats, navigation, cupholders, and a big stereo. It also gets noticed a lot. Getting thumbs up is great fun. Every time I stop for gas someone at the pumps has a compliment, or says, "hey, i used to have one of those!" Number 3 is having something to play with out in the garage that keeps my wife out of my hair for hours on end.

The 67-72 trucks were the last of the "simple" trucks---simple to work on, simple to modify. Later model trucks started using plastic in the interior and more stuff under the hood.
Another reason to go with an old "simple" truck, At least in our state, you pay personal property taxes on your vehicle-----taxes on a 68 (in my case) are far less than they would be on a new or newer truck. |

The best part is spending all of the money before my wife gets a chance at it and when someone looks my truck over and says "I guess it looks alright", I can say "Let's see the one you built from the ground up, yourself"!

I just like the style & design of these trucks... I think I was kind of a head of their time in style & design.
I also like the simplicity of the trucks as far as working on them. And then who doesnt love a 67-72? Everytime I've driven either of the two 72's I've had you are always showered with thumbs up, questions, & compliments. |

They're simple & cheap , just like that old H.S. GF you had.....
.I remember when these were new in the Dealer , never thought I'd own one but I do now and I love it , there's a reason Chevy outsold Brand 'F' for all those years , just slide behind the wheel of a GM truck and you'll soon know why . I'm an old geezer , Journeyman Mechanic who grew up on The Farm (Milking Shorthorns) so I know and love , base model work trucks ~ this old 6 Banger shortie stepper is *exactly* my idea of the perfect truck ~ i can work the crap out of it then hose it down and take my Lady to dinner in it.... We're driving it to Death Valley this weekend in fact . Few still put 80 + miles weekly on an old truck ,I do and this one isn't restored , it's just an old survivor . BTW : I STILL HAVE A VERY NICE GREEN CLOTH BENCH SEAT FOR FREE ! PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME TOSS IT IN THE SCRAP BIN

Knowing I have an "oldie but goodie". Mostly everyone around here just doesn't get it BUT I love my truck and I get it. I will never own another vehicle. So I know Ima learn alot about this truck and I love the fact that there is alot of room to play around in.

They are just plain good looking trucks. They are the ultimate classic Chevy trucks, the prettiest trucks GM ever made. That trumps any design flaws they may have, IMO.

Sound nuts but, I like the feeling I get when I drive my truck and all the pressures of life seem to be put on hold. Just relax and enjoy the ride.

Well they are the best looking trucks ever made! As mentioned before, simple, parts are cheap, they ride and drive great! I like driving it much better than my 98 Tahoe and it looks so much cooler, even with the rust and multicolored body parts! You don't have to have a good friend with computer diagonostic equipment to work on it! Oh yea, that friend likes my truck too LOL!
