More hood questions.

Okay I now know the differences between old and new style hoods. I want a 67-68 style hood on my 1970. But i know it is going to take some mods to make it fit. I've seen the thread where the guy does this but it looks really difficult and not worth the time. I wonder rather than shortening the front could you shorten the back instead? If so... would it be just as difficult? I love the way the old hood looks with the 70 grill and fenders. I want this look so bad but every method I have seen thus far is a little out of my skill range. Oh and i don't want to pancake my hood ether. I know I'd mess that up. Somebody, anybody help me find a way to do this. If I cant find a good way I will settle for the original hood but I really want to do this.

Without really knowing your fabrication skills it is difficult to know which way to steer you. Any way you look at it, you are going to have a lot of fab work involved. Without measuring I am not sure if the hood sides are parallel or not. Even if they are slightly pie shaped, it would add a tremendous amount of work to the mod because the further you pull the hood back the wider the gap will get in relation to the fenders. Not to mention the hood hinge location. If you are shying away from a pancaked hood mod then you might be biting off too much here.

But the way to learn is to dive in and do it, if you really want it, make it happen. Go to the scrap yard and buy an old hood to practice on, it does not even have to be a Chevy truck, just something you can practice cutting and welding on, and dialing in on your welder settings. And if you screw up on the real thing, hoods are not real expensive and you can buy another one. But don't go down an unfamiliar road if you cannot afford to get lost. Meaning if you mess up and you can't afford a new hood then maybe wait on this mod.

Check out this mod. I think it is way better than pancaking but it still looks very difficult. I'm just wondering if there are more ways to do it. Oh and the hood sides aren't parallel so I see what you mean about the gap issue. I still just looking for more options.

I have seen guys that have cut a wedge out of the top front edge of the hood and laid it back like the 67/68 style but still it is a lot of work to make it look good. Everyone has got to learn somehow it is just a matter of how bad you want it, if you are not willing to accept the frustrations of the learning curve then pay someone to do it for you. If you are willing to learn then grab a cut off wheel and start planning your moves, but like I said before I would highly recommend a practice hood first.

If it was easy it everyone would do it, I put a 68 hood on my 72 Blazer; many many hours involved that's fer sure!

It looks awesome! do you have anymore pics of your blazer? Or maybe some of how you did it?

The hood starts at post #59, it wasn't bad really, time consuming mostly. Stuff like this you just jump into then you have no choice but to do it and make it work!
