Smaller Power Booster retrofit --> Anyone done this?

I'm going to try to find a smaller power brake booster to replace my old one. I would like to use a 7" one but I don't know if they work well. Anyone tried this?

After I did that I was going to try to get a newer car master cylinder to fit. I like the look of the aluminum body with the plastic reservoir. Any thoughts on a direct fit?

Any thoughts would be great.

I think that stainless steel brakes make's a kit for that ???

have you got front disc? I think it's gonna be hard to use a newer aluminum master if you don't.....

FRENCHBLUE72, Yeah. That's what I have in mind. Except for the newer style master. Is that yours? Any idea if the smaller booster still works strong?

c-10 racer, I will be converting to Baer F/R discs. I believe it should work just fine. I'm sure I'll have to find some newer style prop. valve too.

Nope not mine sure would be kool though.. M y guess is if it slow's down this motor it should slow down a street truck.. Also you can get wilwood proportioning valve's that are adjustable threw summit...

I don't have one on my truck but I ran the master power unit in my bigblock camaro and it worked like a charm. I plan on using one in the truck too. btw,I did use a standard cast master cylinder, not a newer plastic one.

I checked out master power and it seems they know all about brakes. I think I will go with 8" dual diaphram booster and a disc/disc combination valve. I'm still on the search for a newer style master cylinder.

Newer Astro vans have 4 wheel discs, so do the full sise vans and Tahoes. Maybe even Silverado .. but most likely have ABS .. dont know of that would make a difference....
I want to change my setup too. The stock power booster sticks out so far into the engine bay ... I think I would like it flush against the fire wall ... and the smaller booster too would be nice.

Thanks for the info. I have a brake application guide at work. So I'll be able to look up the part numbers and piston diameters.

Not sure if it is wise to put the booster right on the firewall. I think that you would have to get rid of the lever between the pedal and the booster. Then to center the booster with the rod you would have to modify the whole pedal assembly and mount. I'll have to look at it closer to see if it's possible. If it isn't, then we're stuck with the booster sticking out a ways.
