Sway Bar Question? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey, kinda new to the website, and I have a couple of questions.
I have a '72 Chevy Cheyenne Super stepside (can't figure out how to post pic) and I want to put a swaybar on it. Can't seem to find the correct one localy, but I did find a massively thick one on a 77 c20. Would this work? The mounts measure about the same distance apart. Any help would be appreciated. Also, I have an oppurtunity to buy a complete A.C. system off of a truck (except the compressor) at a junkyard, should I get it for about 100.00??
Last question for now, I want to convert to the under the bed gas tank, also have an oppurtunity to buy a tank off of a Blazer, but it has a good 2 inch hole in the side. They want 25.00 for it, without a sending unit. I've got a guy who can weld it up for 20.00. Are metal tanks better or are plastic, or is that an opinion question? Thanks for your wisdom and insight, and if you can tell me how to post a pic I would love to sow off my pride and joy!!!

Welcome to the board.. THe sway bar will work... The a/c sound's like a good deal to me but j.m.o Steel gas tank's are better than poly cause they do not sag and can take a little abuse.. As far as posting pic's go to brouse at the end of the thread and pull your pic's off the computer...Hope this help's

That one should work for you. Everyone should remember that a sway bar that is to thick, can be a detriment to handling too. In this case, thicker is not always better.

Im really not sure. But if you get one too thick, you will have an understear problem. Very nice truck. Personally, I would not go over 1 1/4 inches on the sway bar.

This is before I installed my power brakes. I am installing my energy suspension cab mounts and panhard bushings tomorrow, any suggestions besides don't overtorque and lube really well? They were 54.00, and the original rubber mounts were 50.00, it made more sense to me to get the energy ones. Ever had any problems???? Heres another pic..

The next major project will be the gas tank conversion, then A.C., and somewhere in between refinishing the wood bed. Probably going to do the bed when I do the tank. This is my daily driver, so I use the bed pretty often.

My truck, currently in primer, was black when it was new. When I see a picture of a black one, it just adds fuel to the fire. However, it's not that I don't want mine back in black, I would also like to have a red truck. Then, originality of color counts, doesn't it? Mine has the upper/lower side trim, which I don't really care for, at least not both. I think it would look better with just the lower trim. But, I like the 67-68 side trim better and wonder how it would look on my '69.

You have a very nice looking truck. California is kind to vehicles. My youngest son is stationed at Travis AFB, and wants to buy an early Blazer/Jimmy, "to play with". His first vehicle was a black '69 Fleetside C-10, which he regrets selling. It wasn't wrong to sell it, but it wasn't right to keep it and not drive it, either.

I also want to move my gas tank, but I'm not sold on putting it under the frame, ala Blazer/Suburban's. Since I don't actually haul much in my bed, I'm considering a bed-mounted tank that would be hidden by a tonneau cover, yet easily accessible.

I have factory A/C in my truck, too. I think that restoring the A/C is the way to go, even to the point of using a newer coolant, but not R134A. There is an R12 replacement, that is friendly to the environment, which I will use. I can't remember the brand name, but someone else will.

To answer your question, I'm currently stationed at Camp Pendleton, Ca. (Marine) I have had many trucks to include a '80,'81,'82,and '83 Chevy Fullsize. Before I left for Iraq I had sold my 1991 S10 Short Bed regular cab that I had put a 1996 LT1 with a 6 speed tranny. When I came back I decided that life was too short and I wanted my dream truck. I immediately sold my '82 Short Bed and bougt this truck. I have never been so happy with a purcase. I got to spend the weekend working on it. I changed the body mounts (energy suspension) rear panhard bar bushings (same) Rear differential fluid, radiator coolant, thermostat, oil, greased all of the zerk fittings I could find, and hooked up all of the hoses for the windshield washers. I love it wen I get a ood weekend with no other cores to do. By the way, I'll be heading back to home to Texas When my enlistment is up in two months. This is probably more info than you wanted, but I felt like sharing. Thanks again for the great hospitality. I really do love this sight.

I promise I can spell, but the 'h' on my keyboard sticks, too bad I can't just grease that!!

I don't have all of those trucks anymore. Right now all I have is the '72. I am moving back to Cypress Tx. when I get out. Just got a new house there with a 2 car garage that is screaming for another '72 built from the frame up!!! We will see once I get there!!
