Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
welded the front floor section and support in the K5, and started working on the rear support. I took the template from the drivers side i had ( thanks Russ) and cut another base plate. since some of the non flat stamping was still solid ( and was still there) i attached it to the new base. its pockey looking but its basically solid... slowly cutting out the rot or thin areas and replacing with solid material. then attaching it in its location on the truck to ensure good fit and function. the thing should be as strong if not stronger than the original since it will end up "boxed". It is a PITA but i want the K5 to be stiff and solid. after that gets re installed i will have to do the same with the Torque (rocker) box. i will be sure to save my templates for this when i go back to make the front section of the long missing drivers side rocker box.
first 3 pics my new floor the last 2 the rear support piece

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
I finished the rear Cab support reconstruction and got it covered generously with POR15

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
rebuilt the torque box today, had to go back to Fab Tech 201.. cut out the rot and patched also re constructed the missing area under the cab support...
(see pics 1,2&3) the last ones are the completed plate all POR15'ed the final trick will be using the right box as a guide for the left one that is long gone...

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
thanks, i try, i feel im better with fabrication than the welding.... a truck like this is a challenge since much of the key structural components are not available... it fact there arent many full removable top 2nd gen K5's around

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
removed the right door and installed a brand new rocker. then re installed the door to keep the weather out till i can get the "new" door prepped for install.
i still need to make a small patch for the rear floor by the "B" post. i think im am going to use a spare "drop in" style left front floor for the channel inside the rocker. kinda hate ruining a good patch panel but it has to be done. after the work it took on the drivers rear floor this should be a one piece deal the last pic is of my inner fender. a little patch, welding and POR15 it should look like new

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
That is an amazing amount of work you have done so far, and it looks really good!
I have to ask though, what happened to the black tub you were going to put on 2 years ago? Did the deal fall through?

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
completed the floor today. the rear section is not available for my truck ( only the 78 up floor) so i took the channel area out of a drop in left side panel and measured cut, measured again bent. test fit trimmed etc..... i got it to fit decent and welded it in.... finishwd off the floor undeneath ( painting etc) sealing holes then PORed the patches and such..
I am DONE with the fabrication and reconstruction... ( besides some small patches to the wheel tub and the tub mount under the battery.) here are some pics

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
cut and installed the new "used" pick up door.... the track on the tinted window was crap so i had to re install the clear window for now.... it fits and shuts like new.... i am amazed for a chineeze repop. nice gaps not sure if the come thru on the photos , I also removed the beat front bumper so i can clean up and paint the core support and hang the fender back on with no interference. I have a brand new GM front bumper for this truck....

Re: 74 K/5 Screamin Green
I did some forensic investigation on the rear quarter. i chipped and scraped thru the top coat primer and bondo to get to the original color. and it was Green with NO white in the middle. OK on that note does anyone know the width of the spacing of the upper and lower trim? im looking for a measurement center of top band to center of bottom band. Thanks///
