I could be wrong, but i thought there was an adapter, or power sleeve or torque sleeve, whatever you wanna call it, on the back of every tranny bolting up to a t case, didnt think they bolted right up to the back of the tranny. correct me if i am wrong, cause i will be dealing with this issue in the near future.

It's going to depend on the application - the SM465 that came out of my truck bolted directly to the transfer as you can see by the flange on the back side of it.

that flange sticking out the back of the sm465 in the pic is the adapter i was speaking of

Call Trevor & them at WFO man - they're the experts for me for this sort of thing & sure they can tell ya what you'll need to make any combo work. They also have a lot of used parts around too in case you need something like that.

I def will, cause the tranny i just bought doesnt have the adapter sleeve, but they are a dime a dozen. if i cant find one in alaska i will have to get it from the lower 48.

Yes it is, the just removed the case by itself. Due to them not needing the adapted for his new tranny.

I honestly have no idea, but they are a very popular item around here. Especially the ones that are built into the tailgate handle, they can get the tailgate off, throw the whole thing in the back of their van and be gone in under a minute.

It's not an adapter. It's molded into the transmission housing. 2wd and 4wd trannies are different. The tail shaft housing on a 2wd is long and slender with a speedo output, while a 4wd looks like that picture, short and flat with the flange to mount a t-case to. If you can't find a 4wd tranny you can order the tail shaft housing and other parts needed to convert from a lot of tranny shops.

No its not molded to the box, that housing is the adapter he was talking about. 2wd and 4wd boxes are the same, the only thing that is different is the mainshaft and the tail housing or adapter.

Mine will be built into, or somehow attached to the bumper - so it'd be a little more difficult to just run off with. Even so, the camera's themselves aren't real expensive to replace if it does happen.

Yep, that's what I was referencing to. Know it's a bolt-on deal, but that's only so the trans can be used as a 2WD or a 4WD - still considered it "part of the trans" itself...

So far no unfortunately.... It is however just Wednesday evening. I will be calling the shop in the morning as usual to check-in & hopefully will get my pictures on Friday.
The goal is still to start it up this week, but apparently Keven has been having to chase down a few leaks & catching hell trying to bleed the brakes as well... I'll definitely post up anything new as soon as I get it though!!! |

That just reminded me of a story... one of my old instructors told me a story about bleeding the brakes on a hotrod he had built. They couldn't get the brakes to bleed, and what it turned out to be was a fitting that went through the frame had an inside diameter that was larger than the brake lines attached to it. this caused an air pocket to form in the higher spot of the fitting. You never would have guessed since the fitting was parallel!

DANG, DANG, DANG!!!!
Appears Guard Dawg "mis-sent" the module to a wrong address... It was returned, but now won't be to the shop until Monday or Tuesday, so there's no way it'll start up this week... Keven's still having bleeding issues with the brakes - had to order up a new proportioning valve as there must'a been something wrong with the one we got. Also waiting on some adapters for his pressure tester set-up so he can verify the master cylinder pressures. Also had to order a new clutch master cylinder - the one they had installed was defective... Freakin' Gremlins are running wild on my truck as of late..... On a plus note though, he did manage to get most of the transfer linkage fab'd up & worked out. Also mocked up a shifter out of steel for trial fit - it'll be made out of aluminum once it's all said & done. Should have some pics to post up tomorrow with any luck - maybe even some of Keven drenched in brake fluid.... |

Ok, now I'm a little pissed.............. Keven emails me today & says that the clutch may not be correct for the application! Thing is is that I never spec'd out the clutch - THEY did!!! So now, if indeed it is wrong, that means tearing out the trans/transfer combo once again to get it right....... I emailed him back & said plain & simple though that I am NOT picking up the tab for a new clutch when I wasn't the one that ordered the darn thing!!!! Unfortunately for Keven though, he wasn't really that involved in my truck way back when the clutch was purchased, so he didn't know who picked it out - so thought that I did.... I can't freakin' get two steps ahead on this stupid thing without back pedaling 20....... |

Well, unfortunately there is no option for that - doubt I could have my truck shipped to Afghanistan to work on it.... Need it done & I'm not there to do it, so to a shop it goes.

Sounds like you may need a new shop to work on it as it seems like you have had nothing but problems and set backs shops fault or not.

Apparently the throwout bearing starts going into the inside opening on the clutch fingers after the first engagement - so it's they spec'd it to small & have to replace it - or the clutch will need to be replaced. The clutch is from Centerforce & the throwout is from McLeod.
