Was the tank ripped or did the fuel come from the filler tube when everything else was shifted?
it ruptured on the passenger side and along the top side of the tank where its seamed together from where the indentation of a tree is on the back side of the cab....if you look at all the pictures and see dark wet spots all over the whole truck on the black primer paint thats all fuel some from filler and some from the inside of the cab! i think picture #4 you can see alot of the fuel on the ground on the passegner side it was like a bomb went off when the tank ruptured gas was every where.

Re: How many still have stock tank in place?

If I add my tank, then we're at 41 or 42, right? Well, mine is being repaired right now and then water tested for leaks before being put back in tomorrow.

What is the best way to get rid of the water that doesn't want to pour out? It may get to 60F with 85-90 % RH, so laying it out and hoping for a good hot sun to cook it isn't going to happen. It's too big for my oven, too.

Is time the best solution? Wait for more than 24 hours?

Re: How many still have stock tank in place?

A couple of heat lamps focused on the outside would easily cook the tank enough to evaporate any remaining water. I use them all the time for small to medium painting projects and they are really handy to have around. These are the clamp on type I keep permanently mounted over the bench:

Still have mine in there. Undecided of I should move it out back or get a smaller steering wheel... Or lose a few pounds. Haha.

Re: How many still have stock tank in place?

49 here, and no plans of change. When I bought the truck, I pull the gas tank out and drained it, and in the process was able to see that the tank is in perfect shape. One thing to be said for tanks being in the cab, they stay out of the weather that way.

I know what you mean....I just put a 700r4 transmission and a Ididit column in my 65. The new column is great because I was able to mount it about 3 inches closer to the dash. Its nice to have the extra belly clearance. LOL.....

Re: How many still have stock tank in place?

For some unknown reason my steering wheel has migrated much closer to my six pack abs over the time I've owned the truck. Shortening the steering column and/or using a wheel with a shallow dish is really the most effective way to gain some belly room. Unless a person can tolerate having the seat back straight up vertical, removing the stock tank won't allow the seat to move back any further because the upper part of the seat back hits the bulge just below the back window same as it did with the tank in there.

Re: How many still have stock tank in place?

I dont really have a crush on the in cab tank but I happen to live in a state that still doesn't think its citizens can pump there own gas by themselves. I also dont like the idea of lowering the tailgate every time to fill up too. If I could find a good way to get the filler neck accessible without needing to jump through hoops i would.

Re: How many still have stock tank in place?

Number 42 here, and a new tank has been ordered. I could not get the welder to follow my instructions, decided he knows and has done more welding than me (never picked up a torch or stick in my life) and the 4 hour water test this morning shows it still seeping. I wanted no water showing.
So, a new tank is the way to go.

New question: what, if any, sealer should I use? I plan on running with Clear 92 octane fuel. A new tank shouldn't need a sealant or chemical liner, or so I think.
Please chime in; I have a few days until the tank shows up.
