49 Cab rust

Hey guys we are starting a 49 pickup restore. The cab has lots of rust on it (bottom, corners, around the windows, and in the groove were the cab splits from the top to bottom). Any suggestions on getting rid of all the rust? any advise will do, thanks guys!

Hi Swanny! I can at least say welcome!! ; )
I suggest you post some photos, that will get folks stirred! We love pics! I think you'll find, you don't get rid of rust, you replace panels to eliminate the rust altogether. I'm no pro by any means, but I ask questions on here that help me make fairly decent decisions. However, I think many people work full time jobs, and youll probably get replies a little later, and it is a Sunday; )

Just finished the rust repair on my 51 cab. If you can do it yourself, or pay some one to do it, replacement of the rusted panels is the way to go. I installed a new floor, (measured by me and formed by a local sheetmetal shop), new inner kick panels, new front and rear cab corners, and inner and outer lower door panels. Basically new sheetmetal on the bottom 10 inches of the cab/doors.

Some guys will look for a whole cab that has alot less rust than the original, and swap cabs. Good rust free cabs are getting very hard to find, and expensive.

Yeap, pictures are worth............ it is impossable to guess with out seeing pictures. A lot of rust to one guy is a little to another.
