Stuck-ish fuel gauge
All of a sudden my fuel gauge is stuck between an eighth and a quarter tank. However it is not fully stuck, but will bounce a bit when gas is moving around. I've never dealt with this. What are the right trouble shooting steps on this one? Do I need to drop the tank or could my gauge be bad?
Thanx Craig |

Re: Stuck-ish fuel gauge
Sending unit. You can run some basic wire tests to confirm nothing's broken, but it sounds like the sending unit. We had the same thing, but with an aftermarket 38 gallon tank. The stock sending units don't do well in those tanks, so we live with a less-than-perfect gauge reading--it bounces when it gets low.

Re: Stuck-ish fuel gauge
sounds like your float has a hole in it, probably partially filled with full keeping it submerged. If you do replace the sending unit, do yourself a favor and throw the replacement float away. They leak right out of the box.
You can pick this one up for under $10 at a ford dealer and it works great. http://s184.photobucket.com/albums/x...rent=truck.jpg
