removing woodgrain decal from lower trim
So I was able to piece together a lower trim set for my truck, but one of the pieces has the woodgrain decal on it. I was trying to peel off the decal, but the overcoat plastic layer peeled off instead. Has anyone tried to remove the decal from the trim? Is there any special way to do this without ruining the lower trim? I won't be putting the decal back on, so I need this to be as clean as possible so I can paint it. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The woodgrain decal is tough to get off. The only way I know of is using a heat gun like used for heat shrink tubing. It can get really hot though. I haven't tried goof off or Goo gone but these work good to remove the adhesive. Good luck.

I would try a heat gun to loosen the adhesive and peel it off. If your trim is already off of the truck you could try some adhesive and decal remover from 3-M. I also need to remove and replace the woodgrain decals on the lower trim on my 72, but i'm not going to remove the trim to do it. I'm sure others will chime in. Joseph

Use an Eraser Wheel, goes on your drill. Auto paint supplier carries them. Take mine off so I could install new woodgrain decals.

A body supply lace can sell you something made just fpr that purpose. But,heat works best since it's old and brittle.

I also used a heat gun with good results, Harbor freight has them cheap.
